Western Mass Weather for June 6, 2019

AFTER A RAINY AND STORMY NIGHT FOR MANY, AS WELL AS A WARM AND FOGGY START, SHOWERS WILL END BY MID MORNING, WITH A SPOT SHOWER POSSIBLE FROM LATE MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON AS DRIER AIR PUSHES INTO THE REGION, BRINGING HUMIDITY DOWN BY TONIGHT… FRIDAY THROUGH THE FIRST HALF OF MONDAY ARE WARM, SUNNY, AND DRY… SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARRIVE BY MONDAY EVENING INTO TUESDAY AHEAD OF A COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE AND INCREASED HUMIDITY… (6:40AM Thurs)

Good morning everybody, we’ve got patchy fog and some final showers to work east through the region this morning. It’s a very warm and humid start with temps widespread into the 60s. Orange even reported 70 degrees a little while ago!

Showers from the low that is tracking east and out to sea through NH and MA this morning will wet the roadways again for some through about mid morning before tapering off.

Thereafter, we should see improvement in the cloud deck from NW to SE with breaks of sun at times, as well as a spot shower here and there by late morning through the afternoon. Highs will be well into the 70s with lows in the low to mid 50s tonight under partly cloudy skies.

Thereafter, a high pressure ridge builds over south-central Canada, which locks in with an upper level low pressure system in southeast Canada. As you can see the isobars (i.e. lines of equal pressure at 3 miles up in elevation) are slanted from NW to SE in the attached mid-level pressure map, our flow will be coming from the northwest, which is a drying flow for Friday through Sunday.

I am concerned for some persistent cloudiness south of the Mass Pike later tonight into and possibly through Friday, so folks from Great Barrington to Springfield to Worcester and points south may see more of a partly sunny day tomorrow with longer cloudy periods, I’ll have to update you on that.

Folks north of the Pike should be getting squarely into the sunshine starting tomorrow morning, and highs will be in the 75-80 range for all of us under mostly sunny skies for Friday and Saturday, and upper 70s to low 80s on Sunday!! A Gorgeous trifecta and weekend! Lows will drop deliciously down into the low 50s which will provide great sleeping weather each night.

By Monday, we should enjoy a partly sunny day, although humidity will be on the increase as the flow shifts out of the southwest ahead of an incoming cold front that moves through on Tuesday.

Highs will be well into the 70s on Monday, but any sunshine that starts the day will be replaced by clouds in the afternoon, and by showers during the evening.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected for Tuesday as dew point temps increase well into the 60s to near 70 degrees for a very humid day. Some strong storms are possible.

As of now, it looks like a north flow will re-establish itself with more sunshine and drier weather by the middle of next week. We’re doing pretty good!

Have a great day!
