Western Mass Weather for June 15, 2021

ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARRIVE BY EITHER SIDE OF THE NOON HOUR AND LAST INTO THE AFTERNOON… CAN’T RULE OUT HAIL OR LOCALIZED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS, BUT TORRENTIAL RAIN IS THE MAIN THREAT TODAY’S ACTIVITY… NICE WEATHER FOLLOWS THROUGH END OF WEEK WITH SATURDAY SHOWERS, AND A SWEETER SUNDAY INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK… 7:30AM TUES…

Good morning folks, may your dreams have been sweet, may your day be sweeter, may our star and our planetary host make you feel welcome, and along the lines of Warren Zevon-esque sentiments, may you have a good sandwich today.

For our weather, we have one more inclement weather day and then we’re off to the starry races with peak light pouring in from the approaching Summer Solstice on June 20th, with ample sunshine Wednesday through Friday.

But first, we have today with which to contend. Our overnight showers, downpours and even a few thunderstorms over north-central CT and eastern Hampden County into southern Worcester County have raced away to the northeast.

Now we have our lull as I had mentioned, and this should last until at least late morning, and possibly into the early afternoon.

Around that time, we should start to see isolated showers and thunderstorms develop as an upper low to our west starts to swing more easterly and bring its colder pool of air aloft into our atmospheric picture.

This will steep lapse rates, and with pretty good wind shear, and enough moisture with lift from a surface front, we should see some isolated cells pop, and some could become strong to severe with hail and gusty wind possible.

But, coverage should be isolated, so not everybody will see this activity, which should wane once we get through the end of the day and head into the night.

Highs today will reach the low to upper 70s from high terrain to low/valley areas, with lows in the low to mid 50s as we clear out late.

As of now, Wednesday through Friday look mostly sunny with highs in the low to mid 70s Wednesday, mid to upper 70s Thursday, and with high pressure getting south of us and fostering southwesterly flow, reaching the upper 70s to mid 80s on Friday, with lows in the 50s through the period and mostly clear skies at night.

Another wave approaches with a cold front on Saturday, and brings a chance for more showery conditions, along with increased humidity. Highs will reach the upper 70s to mid 80s with lows in the 50s, and a much nicer and sunnier and drier Sunday with highs in the 70s to finish the weekend strong.

Have a great day, and I will pop in here when storms and showers start to pop!
