Western Mass Weather for July 23, 2018

SHOWERS AND DOWNPOURS CONTINUE THIS MORNING, AND WILL START TO SHIFT WEST OF I-91 AND EVENTUALLY WEST INTO NY STATE FOR TOMORROW, WHICH SHOULD SEE LESS RAIN OVER WMASS…

Good Monday morning everybody, here’s the skinny on our weather for today and this week:

–Showers and downpours continue for parts of our region this morning
–Some sunny periods are possible, especially along and east of the CT River as drier air tries to work in from the east thx to our westward-shifting Atlantic high pressure system
–Deep southerly flow continues to generate and bring showers south of Long Island onshore and up into WMass and surrounding counties
–With time, a drying influence from our western Atlantic high pressure system will be noticed
–This high will retrograde westward with time, as it nudges the south-to-north flowing tropical feed west to force the firehose to spray rain over NY state by tomorrow
–However, for today, showers will fall heavily at times, and by afternoon should focus mostly west of the CT River, although scattered showers will be possible anywhere in our region
–Expect highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and lows near 70 with dewpoints in the low to mid 70s, creating patchy fog late tonight in spots
–Better chance of only a few scattered showers for Tuesday with partly sunny skies east of the CT River and mostly cloudy skies west of it
–Expect Tuesday highs in the low to mid 80s and lows near 70 with patchy fog again
–The high slips back east for Wednesday, and our upper low starts to send some energy our way, which could increase the threat for showers and thunderstorms Wednesday and Wednesday night
–By Thursday and Friday a cold front approaches with even more showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be severe
–The weekend looks decent with a brief shot of drier air before more showers next week

Have a great day!
