[HEAT WAVE ON THE WAY FOR FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY WITH HIGHS IN THE LOW TO MID 90S, AND VERY MUGGY CONDITIONS… HEAT INDICES MAY EXCEED 100 DEGREES ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY… ONE MORE COOLER, DRIER, COMFORTABLE DAY FOR TODAY AND TONIGHT, BUT CLOUDS INCREASE TONIGHT, AND HUMIDITY ALONG WITH SOME BREEZY CONDITIONS COME UP TONIGHT AND TOMORROW WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE AFTER MIDNIGHT AND INTO TOMORROW… HAZY, HOT AND HUMID SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY, WITH A DRY BUT HUMID WEEKEND, THEN SOME SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MONDAY LATER IN THE DAY… 7:10AM THURSDAY]
Good morning everybody, we’re still here, how did that happen? I ask myself this questions more than once a week usually. Most of us keep on living, and despite the pain and heartache of life, there’s good stuff too, so take all of it and make a life out of it best we can.
It’s nice out this morning, although cloudy for many of us except for perhaps northeast CT, central MA and up into eastern portions of southwest NH.
Temps are in the 60s, and dewpoints are in the upper 50s to low 60s, with Worcester, MA reporting a 52º dew point temp at 6am, amazing!!
For today, we’ve got some cloudiness early, but with high pressure nudging down from the northeast, the cloud deck should thin out and we should end up with partly sunny skies on average, and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s with fairly comfortable levels of humidity.
Clouds will increase later today, as a warm front connected to a wave of low pressure now in the Ohio Valley races northeast towards northern New England tonight.
Lows will dip into the low 60s as our warm frontal boundary approaches.
Scattered showers will develop after midnight across the region, and will continue tomorrow morning when a few rumbles of thunder are possible.
Highs will reach the 75-80º range as humidity starts to creep up behind the warm front.
Southerly breezes could gust later tonight and tomorrow over 20mph at times, and showers and storms may last into Friday night, after sunset when lows should dip into the low 60s.
Thereafter, our summer reprieve becomes a thing of the past as the jet stream swings way north of us, and a ridge of high pressure flexes its biceps to our southeast.
This will produce a heat siphon (my new band name, by the way), and pump the humidity and heat from south to north into New England from Saturday through Monday for what will likely be the first (and certainly the most potent) heat wave of the 2020 warm season.
Highs on Saturday will reach the mid 80s to low 90s under mostly sunny skies, and dewpoints will be well into the 60s for a humid feel. This should be followed by a mostly clear, warm night, and so viewing of Comet Neowise in the northwest sky between 9:15am-10:30am should be optimal, but you have to have a view of the low sky to check it out. Lows will be in the 60s.
The humidity and heat really surges Sunday and Monday, with highs in the low to mid 90s both days (maybe some upper 80s in the SVT mountains) and dewpoints in the upper 60s to mid 70s!! Low air temps will be in the low 70s, so get the ACs ready.
Sunday is mostly sunny, whereas Monday will feature a cold front on the march into New England, so expect some scattered late afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
Tuesday looks very warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s, but it should be a bit drier, but not by much.
More showers and storms are possible on Wednesday.
Have a great day!
