Western Mass Weather for January 30, 2021

[SNOWY NOR’EASTER ON THE WAY FOR THE WMASS REGION MONDAY INTO TUESDAY… STILL SOME DETAILS TO BE WORKED OUT, BUT A MODERATE TO MAJOR SNOWSTORM IS LOOKING MORE LIKELY, WITH THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL EAST OF I-91 IN EASTERN HAMPDEN COUNTY, WORCESTER COUNTY AND THE NORTHEASTERN HALF OF CT… 9:10AM SAT]

Good morning everybody, I am going to a comprehensive “book” update for this evening with a lot more detail on storm setup and different factors to watch regarding this system and how it evolves out and plays out, but for now, I’ll just give a reader’s digest version below.

SUMMARY
–It’s cold out.
–The End.
–I’m kidding!
–Wind Chill Advisories expire today
–After these bone-chilling morning temps, we’ll rise up into a sweltering high temp range of the mid teens to low 20s #BoomThatJustHappened
–At least we’ll have mostly sunny skies!
–For tonight, wind goes calm, dry air continues, and clear skies rule
–This means radiational cooling maximizes, and as a result we’ll see temps dive into the single digits below zero just about everywhere.
–Don’t stick your tongue on metal objects outside, because I know what’s what you were thinking about doing tonight
–Sunday is beautiful, sunny, highs in the 20s, light wind
–Clouds will increase in northern CT late in the day, and then overspread southern New England at night, with lows in the single digits to teens
–On Monday, we start off overcast, and then snow develops from south to north, possibly starting in northern CT as early as the late morning hours, but more likely by early to mid afternoon, then spreading north throughout the afternoon
–Highs will reach the 25-30º range, and it should be snowing just about everywhere by sunset
–Snow falls moderately to heavily Monday night, and northeast winds pick up with a cold high to our north, and developing low to our south
–Northeast winds will gust 30-40mph at times, and there will be blowing and drifting of snow as a Nor’easter sets in
–Lows in the mid 20s
–Snow will continue Tuesday morning, and then end by early afternoon as drier air works into the region
–This continues to look like a 4-8″ snowfall for much of WMass, SVT, southwest NH, northwest CT and the Taconics, with 8-12″+ in the northeastern half of CT, potentially easternmost Hampden County, and Worcester County/CMass points east until you hit the rain/snow line somewhere in EMass or southeast MA
–Tuesday highs will be in the upper 20s to low 30s, with lows in the upper teens to low 20s
–Wednesday and Thursday should moderate temps through the 30s for highs, with potential for highs in the 40s on Friday
–Thursday night into Friday could see some mixed rain and snow showers, though timing of next system is uncertain

Please stay tuned for tonight’s report, as I will update with the latest information and go into much more detail about what looks like another bout of plowable snow for the WMass region and southern New England! Have a great day!
