Western Mass Weather for January 24, 2020

[WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES ARE UP FOR SVT WEST OF BRATTLEBORO] SOME PATCHY FREEZING DRIZZLE POSSIBLE SATURDAY MORNING IN THE HIGH TERRAIN… A COLD RAW RAIN ARRIVES BY MID AFTERNOON TOMORROW AND PICKS UP IN INTENSITY IN THE EVENING WITH LOW LEVEL JET OUT OF THE SOUTHEAST HOSES MOISTURE OVER THE VALLEY AND INTO THE MOUNTAINS, WHERE HEAVIER RAINS WILL FALL… SOME POCKETS OF ICING OR SNOW POSSIBLE IN THE NORTHERN BERKSHIRES/TACONICS AND SVT AND WESTERN FRANKLIN COUNTY TO START… (5:35pm Friday)

Good evening everybody, just a quick post, I know everyone is either relaxing from the end of the work week, getting ready to go out, already out, already asleep, babbling to themselves, babbling to their imaginary friends, or drumming to the beat of their rumbling stomachs like I am!

I will have a full report in the morning with updated info as our storm sets in.

As of now, lows should drop into the upper 20s tonight, and clouds will increase.

Clouds will thicken tomorrow morning, and it’s possible some low level moisture will produce some drizzle or a few freezing drizzle patches, but this is not going to be very impactful, the way it looks now.

Some mixed precip over the highest terrain west of the I-91 corridor, and a cold rain will develop by mid afternoon tomorrow and press north-northeastward into New England.

Highs should reach the 35-40 degree range tomorrow.

As high pressure tracks further east and our primary storm pushes north into the Great Lakes, while our secondary low pushes over us, a southeasterly low level jet will develop between all of these features, and pump in Atlantic moisture, producing moderate to heavy rain Saturday evening and night before the whole thing lifts north of our region by Sunday morning.

A few high terrain snow showers are possible on Sunday, otherwise a partly sunny day should develop with highs either side of 40 degrees.

Fair next week, seasonably cool/cold, and then we watch for the weekend.

For now, assume another rainy system, despite some models snowing, I mean showing a full-on snowy Nor’easter.

I am not buying it at all, given the recent pattern.

Have a great night!

[FREEZING DRIZZLE IN BERKSHIRES SAT. AM POSSIBLE] DRY TODAY, CLOUDING UP TONIGHT, FREEZING DRIZZLE OR SNOW GRAINS POSSIBLE IN THE HIGH TERRAIN EARLY TOMORROW, THEN MDOERATE TO HEAVY RAIN MOVES IN FOR THE AFTERNOON AND NIGHT… SOME HIGH TERRAIN SNOW SHOWERS IN THE TACONICS, LITCHFIELDS, BERKSHIRES, HILLS AND SVT/SWNH SUNDAY, OTHERWISE A DRYING DAY… SEASONABLE AND FAIR NEXT WEEK… STORM SIGNAL CONTINUES FOR THE FRIDAY-SUNDAY PERIOD… (4:40am Friday)

Good morning everybody, there’s a shot at a pretty sunrise, so if it materializes where you are, please post pics below!

SYNOPSISUMMARY
–High pressure continues to track to our south, which will produce a mostly sunny day with highs in the low to mid 40s
–Clouds build tonight with lows in the upper 20s, with some patchy fog possible late
–Saturday morning will see low level moisture pooling into the region, but drier aloft
–This may produce some freezing drizzle patches in the high terrain, as well as a few slick spots. Very light snow also possible
–As temps become milder and moisture approaches at all levels, highs should be pushed into the 35-40 degree range
–The primary low pressure system is going to track NNE into the central Great Lakes and spawn a secondary low that runs right over or just west of the WMass region
–This will bring moderate to heavy rainfall by late afternoon and especially at night
–It will be about an 8 hour window of rain, and then after midnight we should see showers exist north of the region
–Lows will dip into the mid 30s, no slippery travel is expected
–Please note that little to no snow accumulation is expected even in SVT. Maybe a coating to an inch up that way, but right now it looks like a mild flood of air even turns SVT to rain
–For Sunday, aside from a few snow showers in the high terrain, we should be mostly dry with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s, and lows near 30 degrees
–Monday is a transition day from cloudier skies to sunnier skies later in the week, so expect more clouds than sun with highs in the 35-40 degree range and lows in the 20s
–Highs will be fairly seasonable, cresting the mid to upper 30s through Thursday with lows in the 20s
–Partly to mostly sunny skies are expected
–I continue to watch storm signals for late week into the weekend. I am unsure what precip type will be, but will keep you updated

Have a great day!
