Good morning everybody, while I had mentioned 1-3″ for along and north of Route 2 with some 3-5″ amounts in some high terrain spots of SVT and SWNH, I’m sensing we may have seen a bit more in northern MA up into VT and NH, so please post your accumulation reports below!
Also report current conditions. As it stands, the back edge of snow/ice/rain showers is in the Hudson Valley of eastern NY and pushing east. It should be through here by about 9am or so.
Thereafter, partly sunny skies should develop in the valley, but more clouds will persist in the western hills, Berkshires, SVT, Taconics, Litchfields, etc.
Highs will be in the 35-40 degree range as our cold front swings through.
With ample moisture in the mid levels, and strong westerly flow, we will see upslope snow showers develop in the Taconics, Berkshires and SVT, especially the northern Berks/Taconics.
In additional 2-5″ is expected in these areas, and some of these snow showers may spill into the western hilltowns, and a couple may even dot the northern valley floor today. Any accumulating snow will wind down later tonight.
Aside from that, the headline is going to be the strong, blustery northwest wind gusts of 30-50mph at times this afternoon, tonight, and into tomorrow morning.
You need to bundle up if you’re heading out later this afternoon, and especially tonight! Very cold!
With lows in the single digits to teens, wind chill readings will plummet to below zero for many places tonight north of the Pike, and single digits above zero south of there.

For Friday, northwest winds will gust to 30mph for a time, and then slacken by afternoon. Expect a mostly sunny cold and fair day with highs in the upper teens to low 20s.
With strong radiational cooling at night, lows will be the coldest this month, dropping into the single digits below zero.
This sets up a deep and strong cold surface for warmer air to slam into and produce a period of accumulating snow as a warm front attached to a Great Lakes low pressure system extends into the WMass region Satuday afternoon.
The cold air at the surface will initially be very dry, so it will be snowing overhead for a while from late morning into early/mid afternoon before it reaches the ground, likely before sunset, between 2-4pm.
It will snow hard for a time into Saturday evening, and accumulate, causing slippery road conditions and lowered visibility.
However, it appears that the secondary low still looks to form to our east-northeast, allowing warmer air to change us to ice and rain late Saturday night before a dry slot works in and lightens the precip and makes it more showery in our region.
I am leaving totals at a 2-4″ south of the Pike and 4-8″ north before the transition, but there is some potential those amounts may be too high. Going to leave it as is for now.
Sunday will see a few morning mixed showers, and then expect a mostly cloudy day with highs in the mid to upper 30s and lows in the teens as another cold front works through.
Monday through Wednesday looks fair and quite cold with highs only in the 20s and lows in the single digits to low teens.
