Good morning everybody, I hope you all got to enjoy the weekend warm weather and our extreme January thaw, because it has exited stage right, as we can feel this morning. Temps are in the 20s to low 30s, some 35 degrees colder than this time yesterday morning.
I’m going to summarize the rest of this report to get you going this morning, hope it’s a great day for you.
SUMMARY
–High pressure north of Maine will drain colder air into the region on light northeast and east flow
–We’ll see more clouds than sun today with highs in the mid to upper 30s
–Lows will drop to the upper 20s as light wind backs around to the west
–For Tuesday, we’ll be partly sunny early, but clouds will build as a warm front approaches the region
–Highs will be either side of 40 degrees
–Scattered showers arrive in the early evening, and some areas in northwest MA and southern VT may see some sleet mixing in, or even a bit of snow. Precip should be light
–Lows will be in the low to mid 30s, no accumulation is expected
–For Wednesday, pick of the week!
–Expect mostly sunny skies as high pressure builds through for a day, and highs will be in the low to mid 40s for a pleasant afternoon
–By Wednesday night a storm will be approaching from our west in NY state
–This will eventually redevelop in the Gulf of Maine on Thursday, bomb out, and pull much colder air positioned in southeast Canada down and into New England Thursday night
–Before that happens, we should see some snow showers late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with rain showers over northern CT, with lows near 30 degrees
–Any precip Thursday morning quits by noon or so, and highs will be in the upper 30s, and then collapse during the rest of the afternoon and evening
–Strong northwest winds will likely gust somewhere between 30-50mph Thursday night as lows drop into the teens, producing wind chills near 0 degrees, maybe below zero!
–Friday is the first full return-to-winter day, with plenty of sunshine, but highs only in the 20s
–We will cloud up Friday night, and see lows drop again into the teens, providing a very cold, dense overrunning surface for our incoming northern stream storm system
–Whether our storm arrives Friday night late, or Saturday some time still has to be worked out
–However, it is becoming increasingly likely that a good front end thump of snow is possible, producing at least light to moderate accumulations in the 2-4″ or 3-6″ range before any change to ice or rain could take place
–In addition, if the secondary low slated to develop to our south does so south enough, this could be a mostly snow event north of the MassPike, which could be substantial
–Whatever transpires Saturday, that departing storm will deepen over the Atlantic and pull down even colder air for Sunday into early next week
What goes up must come down, and we are most certainly headed down once again in the temperature department.
