Western Mass Weather for January 10, 2020

ALREADY MILDENING THIS MORNING… OCCASIONAL, ISOLATED SHOWERS OR SPRINKLES FROM TODAY THROUGH TOMORROW NIGHT WILL MIX INTO A PARTLY SUNNY DAY TODAY, AND A MOSTLY CLOUDY DAY TOMORROW WITH INCREASINGLY MILDER TEMPS… SHOWERS WILL INCREASE VERY LATE SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING WITH GUSTIER WINDS AS A COLD FRONT WORKS THROUGH THE REGION, AND A THUNDERSTORM CAN’T BE RULED OUT… NEXT WEEK SITS BACK DOWN INTO MORE REASONABLE ABOVE-AVERAGE TEMPS WITH A COUPLE OF SHOWERY DAYS TUES AND THURS… PATTERN START TO CHANGE BACK TO WINTRY WEATHER BY NEXT WEEKEND… (7am Fri)

Good morning everybody, temps are already increasing through the 20s to low 30s this morning, with some temps near 40 degrees on the south coast.

High pressure is well southeast of Nantucket, and the southerly flow pump is engaged with voracity and tenacity.

Highs will rise well into the 40s today under partly sunny skies, with some upper 40s possible in northern CT. An isolated shower is possible over the northern Berkshires, western Franklin County and SVT.

Lows tonight will only be near 40 degrees under mostly cloudy skies with an isolated shower possible.

For Saturday, clouds will increase with isolated showers possible, but temps will reach well into the 50s for highs.

During the evening, lows will likely hover around 50 degrees or so, which is anomalously warm for a mid-January night.

Showers will be on the increase, and a thunderstorm can’t be ruled out as our cold front approaches.

Sunday morning is when we should see some heavier rains sweep east through the region, and ahead of that line we should see southerly wind gusts up to 40mph in WMass, but up to 50-60mph in southeast MA. A thunderstorm is also possible Sunday morning.

Temps will spike briefly into the upper 50s to low 60s, then will drop into the evening, bottoming out into the upper 20s for lows.

Our Monday through Thursday period bottoms out into a sort of upper 30s to low/mid 40s high temp pattern with partly sunny skies at times, and scattered rain showers at times.

After a Thursday disturbance moves through, though, we should see at least a temporary return to winter conditions with highs in the 30s, and the chance for a winter storm next weekend that could bring snow.

I will keep an eye on it, and keep you all updated, have a great day!
