Western Mass Weather for February 4, 2021 (updated 6:55pm)

[4 POSSIBLE SNOW CHANCES OVER THE NEXT 10 DAYS… THE NEXT TWO OF THOSE LOOK LIKE LIGHT IMPACTS… THE FOLLOWING TWO ARE TOO FAR AWAY TO GAUGE JUST YET… HILLTOWN/BERKSHIRE/SVT WET SNOW TOMORROW WITH SNOW/RAIN MIX IN THE VALLEY… SUNDAY LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOWFALL STILL POSSIBLE, MAINLY SOUTH OF THE PIKE AT THE MOMENT… MORE SNOW POSSIBLE TUESDAY THEN THE ARCTIC ARRIVES BY MID WEEK… 6:50PM THURS]

Good evening everybody, we’ve got an active pattern continuing, though no blockbuster-y events look likely at the moment.

Still, atmospheric inclemency does appear to be in the cards for us, so I will quickly run through the next 7 days below, with a stormy hint for the following weekend.

For tonight, a ridge of high pressure that brought us some later day sunshine will exist east, and allow mid to high clouds to increase first, and then thicken and lower toward dawn with lows in the mid to upper teens as our next system moves in.

We’ll see our main low pressure system tracking northeast through the Great Lakes and into Canada, as it protrudes an occluded frontal boundary southeast toward New England early Friday morning.

This will provide a quick burst of snow showers in the early morning, possibly followed by a little break in the action, and then the main precip shield of snow and rain will work east through the region from about 9 or 10am through about 3 or 4pm tomorrow, from west to east.

A coating to 2″ of wet snow is expected in the Litchfields, Taconics, Berkshires, western hilltowns, SVT, SWNH, Franklin County, and even the northern Worcester hills, whereas the central and southern valley, much of northern CT and southern CMass should only see some scattered coatings, with mainly a snow/rain mix turning to rain by afternoon we we milden up into the 35-40º temp range for highs as milder air works in behind the front.

Even the high terrain that snows tomorrow may seen mixes with rain in some areas by afternoon.

The whole thing shuts off before sunset, most likely, except for a few stray showers. Thereafter we should remain mostly cloudy until after midnight with lows in the upper teens to low 20s.

For Saturday, high pressure will build back in for a day, and really bring a beautiful day to get outside and get some fresh air! Highs will reach the low to mid 30s under mostly sunny skies with southwest winds gusting to 20mph at times.

Lows at night will drop into the mid teens as we turn our attention to our west and southwest.

As for our Sunday storm system, it again doesn’t look like a big storm… for us. Should some phasing occur between the northern and southern stream pieces of energy, it still appears to happen too far south of us to produce a major snowstorm over the WMass region.

However, we could certainly see a light to moderate snowfall in our neck of the woods, perhaps a 1-3″ north of the Pike and 3-6″ south of the Pike down into northern CT.

Those numbers are just to give you an idea of the type of impact that is more likely to occur, given what we know now.

Sunday morning should start off partly sunny, but then cloud up quickly by mid/late morning, and then our snow would arrive around the early afternoon and quit before midnight. Highs will be in the low 30s, with lows in the low teens.

Monday will be colder, but mostly sunny behind our coastal low, and highs will be in the mid to upper 20s, with clouds increasing again at night, with lows in the mid to upper teens.

Then, our third out of four possibly snowy systems may arrive on Tuesday and Tuesday night with more accumulating snow, before we see the Arctic unfurl itself through New England for a very chilly latter half of next week. Highs should be near 20º with lows in the single digits to low teens.

Then we look to next weekend, for ANOTHER chance of snow, but that’s a while off, but something to monitor.

Hope you have a great night!

[SNOW SHOWERS *FINALLY* DEPART THE REGION THIS MORNING REVEALING AN INCREASINGLY SUNNY THURSDAY, IN THE WEST FIRST, AND THE EAST LATER… SNOW AND RAIN ARRIVE TOMORROW, WITH LIGHT WET SNOW ACCUMULATIONS IN THE HIGH TERRAIN WEST OF THE I-91 CORRIDOR… A SWEET SATURDAY BEGETS A SNOW SHOWERY SUNDAY EVENING AS COLDER AIR WORKS INTO THE REGION… NEXT STORM CHANCE IS TUESDAY, COLD COMING NEXT WEEK… 7:05AM THURS 2/4/21]

Good morning folks, may The Force be with you today and every day, and may you experience something in your life today that puts a pep in your step, a smile on your face, and may it bestow you with grace.

It’s been a long time since The Bulletization Mobile(TM) has parked 1 inch from my house, blaring its horn, scaring the cats to frenetic oblivion (my new band name, by the way), and ensuring any clogs are cleared within 10 nautical miles of where I lay my head at night, so let’s get jump into the exotic, yet practical world of double–dashes. They’re fun for the whole family, and they’re on sale this week, so it’s a no brainer! Get more for your money!

SUMMARY
–Snow showers worked through the region overnight and left us with some coatings, some thicker than others
–We still have snow showers in eastern Hampden County, northeast CT and southeast Worcester County where it’s snowing pretty good!
–This activity is on the way, finally, and will reveal a day with decreasing clouds as our upper low gets the hint and goes away
–Let’s call it partly sunny, with sunshine appearing earlier in the west (Berkshires), and later in the east (CMass), with highs in the low to mid 30s
–Lows will drop into the mid teens tonight, assuming the next incoming cloud holds off for a bit overnight, otherwise could be upper teens
–Clouds overtake our skies by dawn, and then our incoming frontal wave brings snow to the Berkshires, Litchfields, Taconics, western hilltowns, and southern Greens in VT by mid morning
–We may see another area of wet snow in the northern Worcester hills, eastern Franklin County, up into the Monadnock Region
–Otherwise our valleys should see a rain/snow mix, turning to rain showers by afternoon
–A coating to 2″ is possible in the aforementioned high terrain, with some valley slush or nothing at all (most likely) with snow/rain mix, turning to rain.
–Lows Friday night will drop into the low 20s under mostly cloudy skies
–On Saturday, high pressure builds into the region and produces a mostly sunny day with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s, and lows in the teens
–More clouds will build Sunday with highs in the low to mid 30s and lows in the teens with a few snow showers possible, especially north of the Rt. 2 corridor as a northern stream system whips by, too slow to catch the southern stream system which will be long past our longitude in a split flow regime
–Monday is colder, as a cold front is dragged through the region by that northern stream system, highs will only be in the low to mid 20s with clouds increasing at night and lows in the teens
–A storm will be ejecting east out of the Plains states, so we will have to see its exact track, which may bring more snow to the region
–Colder air follows mid to late next week

Have a great day!
