Western Mass Weather for February 20, 2020

[WICKED COLD TONIGHT] FAIR AND COLD WEATHER CONTINUES THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING, THEN THE MILDENING TAKES PLACE ONCE AGAIN INTO NEXT WEEK… (7:05pm THURSDAY)

Good evening everybody, just a quick note to say that temps of coldness will be settling in across our topographical ebbs and flows this eve.

North to northwest breezes to 10-15mph are possible up high, but calmer down low.

Temps crash into the single digits across the region, maybe a few spots in northern CT stay crested above the 10º mark.

ººI may have to start using degree signs for bullet points
ººI have now decided to rescind that idea

Moving on!

One more cold today arrives for tomorrow with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 20s to low 30s, and lows in the teens under mostly clear skies.

High pressure passes well south of New England, and turns our flow southerly, producing sunny skies and highs in the mid 30s to low 40s for Saturday. Lows will dip into the 20s.

40s and sunshine arrive for Sun Day, with lows in the mid to upper 20s.

Monday starts sunny, then clouds up later in the day with highs in the 45-50º range.

Mixed precip may move into the northwestern high terrain west of I-91, with just rain in the valleys with lows in the low to mid 30s.

A rainy Tuesday begets a partly sunny lullaby of a Wednesday before another storm moves in Wednesday night and Thursday with precip types yet to be determined, or in other acronyms, TBD.

[A FEW FLURRIES WEST THIS MORNING ARE SET WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF FAIR WEATHER THROUGH MONDAY] UNSETTLED CONDITIONS RETURN WITH TWO STORMS ON TUESDAY AND THURSDAY, FOLLOWED BY COLDER CONDITIONS TO BEGIN THE MONTH OF MARCH… THE 2020 SUPPORT NETWORK MEMBER DRIVE CONTINUES… (6:50am Thursday)

https://westernmassweather.com/support-network

Good morning everybody, we’re cold this morning, down into the teens in most places, with a few single digits in SVT and a few low 20s down into northern CT.

We also have some clouds around, especially western areas where a few flurries have been falling in Litchfield County, CT, the southern Taconics, and possibly into southernmost Berkshire County.

We’ll see some partial sunshine today, but clouds will be present at times too.

It’ll be cold with highs in the 25-30 degree range, except for SVT which will likely see some low 20s today.

As flow becomes more northerly, flurries will dissipate away from the region, and as high pressure moves in from the west, skies will clear up by late afternoon and tonight with lows crashing into the single digits.

For Friday, high pressure pushes closer and builds through the region to our south. This will produce sunny skies, calm winds and highs in the mid 20s to low 30s with lows in the teens.

GREAT WEEKEND COMING UP!
By Saturday, high pressure is to our south and pushing off the southeast coast which will bring milder temps.

Expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid 30s to low 40s on Saturday, and lows in the mid 20s Saturday night.

By Sunday, we’re firmly in the low to mid 40s with mostly sunny skies, and lows in the 20s.

Monday is even milder with temps in the mid to upper 40s with clouds building in late.

We have to watch two storm systems for Monday night into Tuesday, and Wednesday night into Thursday.

The first looks rainy, the second could be wintry. We do know that cold air will advecting in to the region by late next week, so cold air will be around. We’ll have to see if we get timing of the storm and cold air and storm track to produce a winter storm, or not. Lots of details to work out.

Have a great day, and when you ask yourself why should I back DHTWN’s weather reporting service, it’s because this resource has become a hyper-local and regionally relevant weather outlet supported by the community, for the community for almost 9 years running.
