STORY
Good morning everybody, we certainly got a nice light thump of snow after midnight, which clung to everything.
But milder air worked north up the valley more quickly, as per my post late last night given southerly flow before midnight holding or even increasing temps higher before the wet bulb effect could cool temps enough to support snow and ice (i.e. precip falling into dry surface air evaporating and then cooling temps before precip hits the ground).
Another factor tamping totals down this morning is the precip shield has broken up over the past hour or two, and become lighter and more spotty, with some lulls mixed in.
This will cause expected totals to be on the low end of ranges presented yesterday, I believe.
There is still another period of snow developing to the west of the northern Berkshires and SVT and that will push east into the Rt. 2 corridor and points north, which should produce some additional light accumulations, but I’d bet dollars to Homer Simpson’s donuts that we’re going to end up with a coating from northern CT into the Springfield metro to up to about 3″, maybe 4″ in the high terrain and SVT/SWNH…. but hey, you tell me!
How much snow has fallen so far where you are? Is anyone seeing freezing rain/drizzle and ice glaze in the hilltowns? I know Florence got about an inch before turning to rain showers.
This mess of snow, ice and rain will ship out of here by noon or so, and then the cold comes tonight, so watch out for black ice patches.

SUMMARY OF THE FEWTCHA, I MEAN FUTURE
–Our wintry and rainy mix mess will last through this morning, and then ship east and out to sea by noon or so
–Highs will reach the mid to upper 30s, but hold more in the low to mid 30s in the hilltowns and high terrain to the north
–Some additional upslope snow showers will affect some folks in SVT, the northern Berkshires and NW hilltowns of WMass tonight as westerly wind combines with remnant moisture before it leaves by midnight. Some coatings possible.
–Clouds begin to break by midnight or so, when we’ll finally get some clearing. Lows will bottom out in the teens to near 20 degrees
–West to northwest winds could gust to 20mph or so in the high terrain and up in SVT/SWNH dropping wind chills lower toward the single numbers very late
–Friday is looking gorgeous but cold, with highs only in the mid teens to low 20s with some blustery periods in the high terrain, calmer in the valley.
–Lows Friday night will crash Below Zero, so bundle up if you’re heading out and about for Valentine’s Day or otherwise
–Saturday is looking equally gorgeous, with highs in the 20s and lows in the teens with plenty of sunshine! Yay High Preshah, I mean pressure!
–Our high pressure cells kicks east and out to sea to our south and southeast, which will produce a milder southerly flow around its back side as it departs
–This will produce milder temps for Sunday and Monday with highs in the 35-40 degree range with lows in the 20s both nights
–Expect more clouds than sun Sunday with increasing sunshine by Monday
–Another inland tracking storm will bring more rain to the region on Tuesday and Tuesday night, with a possible wintry onset
