Western Mass Weather for December 3, 2019

ACTIVE PATTERN CONTINUES BUT SANS TONS OF SNOW… A CLIPPER SYSTEM ON FRIDAY COULD GET A TOUCH FESITY WITH SOME LIGHT TO PERHAPS MODERATE ACCUMULATIONS IF ELEMENTS ALIGN… OTHERWISE IT’LL JUST BE A LIGHT WISP OF A SNOWFALL AND PRETTY UP THE PLACE… A FAIR AND MILDENING WEEKEND LEADS TO INCLEMENT WEATHER STARTING OUT AS WINTRY LATE SUNDAY NIGHT AND BECOMING RAINY AND WINDY ON MONDAY AND INTO TUESDAY BEFORE COOLER AIR ARRIVES BY MID WEEK.. (7:25PM Tuesday, 12/3/19)

Good evening everybody, I hope everybody got themselves dug out from that thick white blanket of fluffy dendrites.

We’ll all sleep well tonight after all that shoveling!

Before I get into the report, I wanted to let you know I’ll be floating some links over the next 24 hours.

TONIGHT’S WEATHER REPORT
–After some clearing, clouds will increase later on, but not until temps plummet over fresh, deep snow pack
–Expect lows in the mid to upper teens
–Also watch out for refreezing of driveways, walk ways, and side roads, black ice will be an issue for some
–For Wednesday, a weak shortwave moves through the flow.
–While a few snow showers are possible late in the Taconics and Berkshires, but they likely stay west of WMass
–Expect mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid 30s generally speaking
–Lows will be in the low to mid 20s
–For Thursday, expect partly sunny skies with highs in the mid to upper 30s with west winds gusting over 20mph at times
–Lows will dip into the upper teens to low 20s
–For Friday, an Alberta Clipper (i.e. a generally moisture-starved, small and compact low pressure system that emanates in the drier regions of western Canada) will dive southeast through the Great Lakes
–It will then move through our region with some light accumulating snowfall
–Timing is not locked in yet for onset and departure, but a coating to 2″, or 1-3″ snowfall is likely
–There’s a low chance the storm track could achieve some more north-south amplitude and pick up a little more Atlantic moisture, but let’s leave it light for now
–Highs will be low 30s, and after it freshens the snow pack, lows will plummet into the teens with a snow squall possible at night, with colder air moving in for a day
–Saturday is mostly sunny and cold with highs in the 20s and lows in the teens
–Sunday is mostly sunny, but milder, with highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s
–Clouds increase Sunday night as a storm system will tracking to our northwest
–This will overspread warm advection precip into our region, and given an onset at night with lows in the 20s, we can expect a period of snow and ice into early Monday morning, which may impact the morning commute: details still to be worked out
–Any wintry precip early Monday goes to plain rain and a strengthening southwest mild flow sets up, with highs in the 40s
–Showers Monday night will last into Tuesday before we cool down by mid week

Welcome to all the new followers (about 800+ at last count), and please do browse my warm, cozy comfy apparel offerings, they make great gifts for you or yours this holiday season, thanks!

[SNOW FINALLY ENDING] ASIDE FROM SOME SNOW SHOWERS INTO THE MID MORNING, OUR STORM IS FINALLY PULLING EAST AND OUT OF THE WMASS REGION… HOWEVER, SNOW CONTINUES FOR CENTRAL MASS INTO MID MORNING, GRAZING EASTERN HAMPDEN COUNTY, AND EASTERNMOST HAMPSHIRE COUNTY WHERE BRIEF BUT HEAVY SNOW BAND IS WORKING THROUGH… SUN COMES OUT LATER… FAIR WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY… AN ALBERTA CLIPPER SYSTEM BRINGS LIGHT SNOW FRIDAY BEFORE WE DRY OUT AND MILDEN UP OVER THE WEEKEND, WITH SOME RAIN BY EARLY NEXT WEEK AS MODERATE OUR TEMPS… PLEASE REPORT YOUR SNOW TOTALS BELOW BY TOWN, AND POST ANY PICS, THANK YOU! (6:50am Tuesday 12/3/19)

Good morning everybody, aside from some flurries and occasional snow showers that still have to track north to south through the WMass region this morning, this storm is finally ending for WMass.

But as you can see on the attached radar shot, the northwestern edge of the snow from our departing storm is still dropping snow over Worcester County, northeast CT, and easternmost Hampden and Hampshire Counties, so some additional coatings to an inch are possible there this morning, so give yourself some extra time.

I am going to summarize the rest of our upcoming weather through the weekend below via double-dashes, which are made favorite bulletization delineation instrument of choice.

SUMMARY
–Snow will be tapering off this morning, and ending
–After a cloudy start, skies will break up and we’ll see partly to mostly sunny skies with northwest winds gusting up to 30mph and blowing some snow around
–In other words, all the snow that hung on our trees could come whooshing down on you as you drive, drastically reducing visibility briefly, so just be alert
–Highs will only reach the low to mid 30s with fresh snow pack
–Lows will drop into the upper teens to low 20s as clouds increase late
–For Wednesday, a northern stream disturbance will whip through the flow, and bring clouds and scattered snow showers with highs in the low to mid 30s
–Lows will be in the mid to upper 20s with some more snow showers possible
–A few more flurries are possible in the hills on Thursday with partly sunny skies expected in valley locations with continued cold temps and highs in the low to mid 30s
–Thursday night will be cold and drop into the 15-20 degree range
–By Friday, we have more of a robust Alberta Clipper system that will be racing west to east through our region, likely arriving by early afternoon
–Highs will be in the upper 20s to mid 30s
–This system could bring some light snow accumulations, so stay tuned
–Lows Friday night will be cold behind the departing low, dropping into the teens
–The weekend finally looks nice!!!
–Expect mostly sunny skies both days as high pressure builds in from the southwest
–Highs Saturday will be 25-30, and highs Sunday will be 35-40 as we moderate our temps in advance of the next system, which will pass to our northwest, keeping us on the milder side of its center
–The big question is when does precipitation arrive from our Monday inclement weather maker
–If it gets here early enough, we could deal with a period of sleet and freezing rain to affect the morning commute, before it all turns to plain rain

In other words, stay tuned folks, we still have some active weather, but nothing like we just went through.

That was an impressive, long-duration, early-season, prolific snow producer.

Again please post your totals and conditions below, and thanks for all of your reports, supports, encouragement and interactions! Have a great day!
