Western Mass Weather for August 8, 2019

ONE MORE VERY WARM AND HUMID DAY WITH SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS BY MID AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING… A STORM MAY BECOME STRONG TO SEVERE, WHICH IF IT HAPPENED WOULD OCCUR WEST OF I-91 CORRIDOR… COOLER, DRIER LESS HUMID AIR MOVES IN TOMORROW SETTING US UP FOR A GREAT WEEKEND, DESPITE THE LOW CHANCE FOR AN ISOLATED SHOWER ON SATURDAY MAINLY NORTH OF THE RT. 9 CORRIDOR IN WMASS AND CMASS… SUNDAY AND MONDAY GORGEOUS, MORE HUMIDITY AND SHOWERS BY MID NEXT WEEK… (6:50am Thurs)

Good morning everybody, we are still quite humid this morning with dewpoints well into the 60s, and the air is pretty much saturated.

While there are sunny areas, we do have one last round of showers from the mid-level low swinging through the region. These showers will affect mainly along and north of the Rt. 9 corridor in WMass, SVT, SWNH and CMass. A few brief heavier bursts of rain are possible.

After this activity clears, as well as any early morning patchy fog, we should develop a partly to mostly sunny day, humid, with highs in the upper 70s to mid 80s, although a few upper 80s are possible in the lower Pioneer Valley down into northern CT. Heat indices will push 90 degrees, and may rise into the low 90s, though this is still below Heat Advisory criteria.

It is the mid/late afternoon into the evening timeframe that we will have to look for broken clusters of showers and thunderstorms as the cold front moves through the region overnight.

A storm or two could become strong to severe with torrential rain and gusty winds, but coverage should be far less than yesterday. I will update later today as any activity tries to gets its act together.

Now isn’t that news: activity getting it’s act together.

How apt!

Moving on…

Friday looks beautiful, as clear, fresh Canadian air advects into the region with dewpoints lowering into the 50s as the day wears on. Highs will be 75-80 degrees with mostly sunny skies and a breezy west wind that may gust 15-20mph at times.

Lows Friday night under mostly clear skies dip into the low to mid 50s. #AwwwwYeah

On Saturday, it should be mostly sunny for the first part of the day, but we can’t rule out a pop-up instability shower or thunderstorm. Any activity would be isolated. Highs will be firmly in the low to mid 70s with lows in the 50s under partly cloudy skies at night.

Sunday and Monday will form a pair of gorgeous days with low humidity, mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the 50s as high pressure crests through the region. Hooray!!

Showers and humidity look to return by the middle of next week, but no severe outbreaks of note are noted at the moment.

Have a great day!
