Western Mass Weather for August 7, 2011

[EASTERLY FLOW BEGETS A MOSTLY CLOUDY DAY WITH SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS OR A THUNDERSTORM POSSIBLE… THIS SHOWERY POTENTIAL CONTINUES INTO AT LEAST THE FIRST HALF OF TOMORROW BEFORE WE START TO DRY THINGS OUT AND WARM THINGS UP FROM SUNDAY INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK… HUMIDITY WILL INCREASE AS WELL… NEXT CHANCE AT SEVERE WEATHER IS WEDNESDAY… SUMMAH TIME… 7:05am FRIDAY]

Good morning folks, we’ve already had a few showers push through the region, and more on the way, currently positioned to our west and southwest.

There’s even a cluster of strong-looking thunderstorms near Binghamton that may make a run at parts of our region, but we’ll have to see if they hold together.

Best chance for showers is in northwest CT and northwest MA into SVT from two different shower clusters that are tracking east-northeast out of NY state.

This is due to weak low pressure positioned south of Long Island over the ocean. This low combined with high pressure moving into Maine will produce an easterly flow that should keep the clouds socked into the WMass region today.

Highs should reach the mid to upper 70s with dewpoints in the low 60s, which isn’t overly humid.

Lows tonight with dip into the low 60s with a few showers possible, as well as patchy fog late.

For Saturday, a cold pool of air moves overhead which will foster some instability and some isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms earlier in the day.

Expect highs in the upper 70s to low 80s with partly sunny skies developing, especially by the afternoon. Lows will be in the low to mid 60s.

On Sunday, we start to turn the corner back into Summah, with mostly sunny skies, increased humidity, and highs in the low to mid 80s with lows in the 60s.

The Monday through Thursday timeframe looks very warm and humid, with highs in the 85-90º range.

Monday should be mostly sunny, but by Tuesday we can’t rule out some scattered pre-frontal thunderstorms mixed into the region.

However, it’s Wednesday and possibly Thursday that we have to watch for the next chance for at least isolated to scattered strong/severe thunderstorms as a slow-moving cold front traverses the region.

It should dry out and cool down by Thursday night into Friday around these parts behind the front.

A bit doldrum-y, at times melancholy, but replete with lots of summery.

Stay healthy…
