A GORGEOUS WEEKEND LEADS TO A SHOWERY AND THUNDERY LABOR DAY ITSELF WITH A FEW STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE MAINLY SOUTH OF THE PIKE… WARMER AND MORE HUMID CONDITIONS ARRIVE FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING WITH SHOWERS AND STORMS AS A COLD FRONT SWEEPS IT ALL SEAWARD…. DRIER AND COOLER AIR FOR LATE WEEK, ALTHOUGH HURRICANE DORIAN MUST BE WATCHED FOR NOW… POSSIBLE AURORA BOREALIS VIEWING TONIGHT, ESPECIALLY IN CENTRAL AND NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND… (7:0AM SAT)
Good morning everybody, we’re starting off with fair conditions this morning with many of us in the 50s, with a few upper 40s in the northern Berkshires, hills, and SVT.
Hurricane Dorian is a major Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds up to 140mph and tracking WNW toward the northern Bahamas. There is plenty of uncertainty with its ultimate track and impact on the U.S. I think the northern Bahamas are in real trouble. Beyond that, we have to get closer to the event. Regardless, anyone from Ft. Lauderdale on north to South Carolina should be making preparations.
Ultimately, I am leaning toward this storm not impacting us that much, as a cold front by Wednesday should help to sweep it east and out to sea as it climbs the coast, but it all has to be monitored, which I will, of course, do.
As far as the WMass region is concerned, we have a beautiful weekend coming up!
Both today and tomorrow will feature mostly sunny skies with highs in the low to mid 70s. Lows tonight will be chilly, down into the upper 40s! Lows tomorrow night hover in the upper 50s as clouds build and isolated showers are possible very late.
As a warm front pushes northeast into the region, showers and thunderstorms are expected on Labor Day itself, so it will be a wet end to the long holiday weekend.
How far north the core of the incoming warmth makes it is in question. Whoever sees that very muggy air, which is most likely parts of northern CT, would have the best chance of a strong to even severe thunderstorm Monday or Monday evening. Highs will be in the low to mid 70s with lows in the upper 50s.
Tuesday and Wednesday will become warmer and muggier, with a late summer feel and highs in the upper 70s to early 80s. Tuesday is sunny, but Wednesday will see an incoming cold front, with scattered showers and thunderstorms ahead of it.
Assuming Dorian is swept out to sea and our incoming cooler and drier air wins the battle over New England, we can expect early Autumn conditions, with highs either side of 70 and lows either side of 50 for late week into next weekend, with dry air.
Have a great day!
