Western Mass Weather for August 3, 2021

HEAT WAVE MAY BE COMING NEXT WEEK… HAY MAKING WEATHER DEVELOPING… PATTERN CHANGING BACK TO SUMMAH… AUGUST IS LOOKING WARMER OVERALL… HUMIDITY ARRIVES BY FRIDAY AND LASTS THROUGH THE WEEKEND… A FEW SHOWER CHANCES HERE AND THERE, BUT NO BIG RAINFALLS IN SIGHT… WILL MONITOR NEXT WEEK FOR ANY AIR QUALITY ISSUES RELATED TO WILDFIRE SMOKE AND KEEP YOU UPDATED… 6:50am Tues…

Good morning everybody, patchy fog most notably in southwest NH down into eastern Franklin County should dissipate this morning.

With high pressure in control from our south, we’re going to enjoy another partly to mostly sunny day with some high clouds at times, but no showers to speak of.

TIME TO MAKE HAY?
While we’re here, the only rain chances I see at the moment are mainly east of I-91 corridor, and during Thursday and Thursday night as a storm looks to stay well southeast and mostly over the ocean, with the exception of dumping rain onto the Cape and Islands which actually need the rain given their current moderate drought, if you can believe that.

And aside from a few hit-or-miss showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, I think we’re basically dry into early next week when our heat wave could begin by Tuesday or Wednesday.

In other words, I haven’t seen better hay-making weather this Summer until this moment.

While I can’t guarantee your parcel of land is going to stay rain free through early next week, there’s a good chance it will, and might be time to make some hay, if that’s your jam.

WEATHER REPORT
As for our sensible weather, again we’ll enjoy mostly sunny skies today after any fog burns off with highs well into the 70s. Lows will drop into the mid to upper 50s under partly cloudy skies.

For Wednesday and Thursday, we’ll see increasing amounts of clouds with highs in the 75-80º range, and lows in the mid to upper 50s as well.

Wednesday looks dry with partly sunny skies, but Thursday and Thursday night could be the day we see a few showers at times, especially well east of the I-91 corridor due to an ocean wave of low pressure riding along a frontal boundary stalled offshore to our south and east.

By Friday, that system clears away, and our Bermuda High in the western Atlantic will flex, and push west, and bump the upper trough over southeast Canada that’s been plaguing us with cool and wet conditions further west and away from us.

This means more humid conditions develop Friday with southwesterly flow under sunny skies, and temps will come up into the low to mid 80s for highs, with lows in the low to mid 60s.

The weekend looks pretty good so far, with highs in the low to mid 80s, humid, and sunny for Saturday, which will be the pick of the weekend. Sunday looks mostly nice as well, though a few showers or a thunderstorm is possible by afternoon. Lows will be in the 60s.

By next week, heat and humidity will likely build through the week, and we could be cresting 90º by Tuesday or Wednesday, which may last for a few days producing a heat wave.

It’s not a lock, but looking more likely, and you can see in the attached chart that the next 8-14 days looks like above-average temps are expected.

Summer ain’t over, folks, as the entirety of August looks warmer on average.

The two issues to monitor in the big picture will be how wildfire smoke tracks across the country and its impacts here, and the anticipated resumption of tropical storm activity in the Atlantic Basin, which we always have to monitor.

I will keep you updated on all of it…. have a great day!
