Western Mass Weather for August 2, 2021

YAY! 3 DAYS OF DRY ARRIVES… SHOWERS MOVE BACK IN LATER THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND NIGHT, ESPECIALLY SOUTH OF THE ROUTE 2 CORRIDOR IN MA, CT AND RI… DRIER CONDITIONS INTO THE WEEKEND… SUMMER SURGES NEXT WEEK (FINALLY) AND ALONG WITH IT, HUMIDITY WILL RISE AND TEMPS MAY BE TOPPING 90º… 6:45am Monday…

Good morning everybody, thankfully last evening’s rains have vamoosed to the northeast. Some areas in southern VT and southwest NH saw anywhere from 1-2.5″ of rain fall, whereas in WMass and northern CT it was a lot less, more like under half an inch.

We start today with fog around in places like Orange, MA and SVT/SWNH, but any patchy fog will burn off as the Sun climbs the sky.

High pressure at the surface is tracking east toward New England, so we can expect mostly sunny skies to develop today, with pleasant highs in the low to upper 70s with comfortable humidity, and lows dropping into the low to mid 50s overnight under mostly clear skies.

For Tuesday, we’ll start off with some patchy dense fog, but again partial to full sunshine will develop with highs 75-80º, and lows in the 50s.

Wednesday is a transition day. I do expect it will continue to remain dry, but clouds will start to increase as a boundary pushes north and low pressure develops along it off of the eastern seaboard.

Highs should again be in the 75-80º range, and partial sunshine will morph into a mostly cloudy sky, still with comfortable humidity. Clouds thicken at night, with lows in the mid to upper 50s.

By Thursday, clouds thicken further, and we watch to see how far north a wave of low pressure will push toward New England, likely bringing at least some scattered showers Thursday afternoon and night, if not a period of stratiform rainfall that may last into early Friday morning.

Thursday highs will again rise into the 75-80º range, with lows either side of 60º.

By Friday, sunshine will develop as that system pulls away, and highs will rise into the upper 70s to low 80s and we can’t rule out an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Lows will be in the low 60s.

The weekend looks fairly fair at the moment, but some afternoon showers or storms are possible as humidity increases into the region, with western Atlantic high pressure setting up and driving southwesterly, moister flow into New England.

Highs should be either side of 80º this weekend, and by next week, we need to monitor for potential of heat surging into the region, with high temps topping 90º potentially.

Summer ain’t over, peeps! Have a great day!
