Western Mass Weather for August 1, 2021

FLASH FLOOD WATCH POSTED FOR SOUTHERN VT FOR TONIGHT… MOSTLY DRY TODAY WITH CLOUDS INCREASING, AND SOME SHOWERS BY LATE AFTERNOON THROUGH THE EVENING… WE THEN ENTER A 3-DAY PARTLY TO MOSTLY SUNNY STRETCH BEFORE WE TURN UNSETTLED AGAIN LATE WEEK WHEN A COASTAL STORM MAY BRING MORE RAINFALL… NO HEAT WAVES IN SIGHT, AND NO 5-DAY DRY STRETCHES EITHER… 8:00AM SUNDAY…

Good morning folks, well yesterday certainly was sublime and delightful, and today is not too shabby either, though it won’t match Saturday’s comparative perfection.

I’m going to jump into double dash mode as it’s Sunday and you’ve people to meet, stuff to do, and lives to live!

UN-SUMMAH-RY
–We’ll generally see more clouds the farther north you go today as a low pressure area and associated front sags southeast from the eastern Great Lakes and northern New England
–Correspondingly, some more sunshine can be expected the further south you go, but eventually, we will all cloud up late in the day, so enjoy whatever star shine we do get
–Highs today will reach the low to upper 70s, maybe a few spots hit 80º
–We’ll be between two low pressure systems tonight, one passing off of the Mid-Atlantic coastline tonight and one tracking to our north
–The two should produce an area of subsidence, or sinking air, which promotes drying in the lower atmosphere
–As of now, it appears that south of a line from about Keene to Greenfield to Pittsfield will see much less rain than north of that line in the northern Berkshires, and especially southern VT and northern Cheshire County NH
–In those areas where more rain is expected, anywhere from half an inch to 1.5″ of rain may fall overnight, and that is why Flash Flood Watches are posted there.
–Normally those amounts wouldn’t warrant a FFW, but given all the flooding and antecedent rains and damage we’ve had, the Watches are up
–Lows tonight will be in the 50s
–Monday through Wednesday will see high pressure moving in with partly to mostly sunny skies each day, and highs in the 75-80º range, and lows in the 50s, with a spot shower possible Monday afternoon
–Comfortable-enough humidity will rule the roost for the first half of the week
–By late week, humidity will increase a bit, and flow will turn more southwesterly, which warms us a bit above 80º, and will also bring renewed chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms

Have a great day!
