Western Mass Weather for April 30, 2020

[RAIN LASTS THIS MORNING INTO EARLY AFTERNOON, THEN WE LULL… HEAVY RAIN MOVES IN BY MIDNIGHT AND THROUGH THE PRE-DAWN HOURS INTO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING BEFORE ANOTHER LULL… THEN SCATTERED SHOWERS WITH POSSIBLE THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING… KILLER WEEKEND AHEAD, SUNNIEST/WARMEST ON SUNDAY WHEN WE COULD HIT 70 DEGREES… MORE SHOWERS MONDAY… 7:45am Thurs]

Good morning everybody, we’ve got a little wave working south to north through the region this morning, which is responsible the rain showers we are seeing, heaviest to the east of I-91, lighter to the west. Patchy fog is being reported.

This rain will last off and on into the early/mid afternoon, and then should exit stage right with time, giving us a bit of a lull this late afternoon and evening.

Highs will reach the low to mid 50s, and southeast flow will increase ahead of the main rain line late tonight, gusting 20-30mph at times, highest in the high terrain. Lows tonight will hover near 50 degrees!

As our moisture siphon draws south to north, and simultaneously tracks west to east, the rain hose will be directed over the region generally between 11pm and 9am tomorrow morning.

We now expect about .75″-1.5″ of rain, with some 2″ amounts along east-facing slopes that face the southeasterly flow and see some orographic upslope dump a little more rain in those areas.

Rain will fall heavily at times overnight and into the early morning, and should quit early to mid morning, leaving us with Lull #2. We’ll see some patchy fog tomorrow, and highs will reach the low to mid 60s.

By afternoon and evening, a cooler pool of air will move overhead, and this will help to reinvigorate some convective-type showers and even a few thunderstorms for the afternoon and evening. Lows tomorrow night will bottom out in the mid to upper 40s.

Aside from a very early shower on Saturday morning, we look to see high pressure building into the region, and partly to mostly sunny skies developing with highs in the low to mid 60s, and lows in the low to mid 40s with lighter northwest winds.

Sunday is the Weekend Pick for sure, with partly to mostly sunny skies and highs in the 65-70º range, hooray for us!! Perfect day to get outside, although allergy sufferers will have to hit the meds to deal, pollen will be in release mode most likely. Lows will dip into the mid to upper 40s as clouds increase again.

Another wave of low pressure zips through the region and brings more showers for Monday into Monday night, and then an upper level system may bring more scattered showers for Tuesday.

Highs on Monday will be in the upper 50s to mid 60s with more 50s for highs on Tuesday and Wednesday. By mid week, some fairer weather should be working into the region.

Stay healthy, folks…
