LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS ARRIVE BY MIDDAY INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON, LASTING INTO THE FIRST PART OF TONIGHT WITH SNOW SHOWERS ABOVE 1500 FEET IN WMASS, SVT, AND POSSIBLY MONADNOCK AND THE NORTHERN WORCESTER HILLS… SOME COATINGS ON GRASSY SURFACES POSSIBLE, MAYBE AN INCH OR SO IN THE SOUTHERN GREENS… FAIR EARLY THIS WEEK, THEN TWO STORMS, A LIGHTER RAINSTORM WEDNESDAY (MOST RAIN SOUTH OF THE PIKE) AND THEN HEAVIER RAINS THURSDAY EVENING INTO FRIDAY FOR ALL OF US… DRIER NEXT WEEKEND, WARMER BY THE FOLLOWING WEEK… 8:25am Sunday…
Good morning everybody, we’re starting off with more clouds than the Sun, and increasing clouds, but still have a few pops of sunshine mixed in early on.
This will change as the morning wears on, with clouds increasing thanks to an incoming upper level system and associated weak area of surface low pressure now over NY and PA which will redevelop south of Long Island later today, keeping us on the cooler side of this little system.
This will allow lighter rain showers to push into the region, first in the Berkshires, by about noon-ish, and then spread slowly east through WMass and CMass by mid afternoon or so.
Highs will only be in the 40s, and with cooler air aloft, temps will be cooling by late afternoon over the high terrain of the Berkshires, western hilltowns, northern Litchfields, Taconics, and southern Green Mountains of VT.
This will allow snowflakes to mix into those areas, probably before sunset, but certainly around or just after it, and some accumulating snow may develop above 1500 feet with a coating to 1″ possible in the high terrain west of the I-91, and possibly even in isolated spots in southwest NH down into northern Worcester County.
Very little to no impact is expected, and lows will drop into the low to mid 30s with any precip ending by midnight or so.
For Monday and Tuesday, high pressure builds into the region for a pair of Spring winners, with more partly sunny skies in the western highlands and mostly sunny skies from the Pioneer Valley east and south in SVT, SWNH, WMass, CMass and north-central and northeast CT.
Northwest winds may gust to 20mph or so on Monday as the air mass gets swapped out for today’s with fresher Canadian air.
Highs Monday will reach the upper 40s to mid 50s, with lows in the low to mid 30s, whereas we’ll get up into the mid 50s to low 60s on Tuesday with lows in the upper 30s as clouds increase.
Wednesday starts a one-two punch of rainy systems, the first weaker than the last, in this case (and also with heaviest rain further south).
The Wednesday system is a coastal storm that will emerge off of the Mid-Atlantic coastline and spread showers (heavier south and north) into the region as it tracks to our south.
Highs will only reach the upper 40s to low 50s, and the rainfall should move in by morning and last the day, quitting by evening. Lows will drop to near 40º.
By Thursday, a larger storm will be tracking to our northwest and pushing a shield of rainfall in here, heavy at times, sometime by later Thursday afternoon or evening, and lasting into Friday before quitting by late morning or early afternoon.
Friday will also be milder with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s, and the weekend still looks uncertain, with some showers possible Saturday and seasonable temps in the 50s.
By early next week, a stronger high pressure cell may develop over the southeast U.S. and this would pump warmer air into New England, so we could be talking about widespread 60s in the region, but let’s not put the cart before the horse – it’s still a ways away, but something to potentially look forward to!
Have a great day!
