Western Mass Weather for April 25, 2021 (update 6:10pm)

SUNDAY-6:40PM: WIND LATER TONIGHT AND TOMORROW… COLD FRONT SWEEPS WMASS TONIGHT WITH A FEW SHOWERS AFTER A FEW LATE-DAY SUNNY BREAKS… WIND GUSTS PICK UP EITHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT FROM WEST TO EAST… BLUSTERY MONDAY ON THE WAY…

Good evening everybody, attached you can see some of the rain totals we got today. Folks in WMass saw up to a tenth to two-tenths of an inch, with only several hundredths the further north you went, and between two-tenths and half an inch of rainfall in northern CT.

For this early evening, we have some breaks in the cloud deck trying to work east into the region, so a few of us could see a few sun sprays before more clouds work in along with a few scattered showers ahead of a cold front now draped through east-central NY.

That front should pass through WMass before midnight, and you will know when it does, as the wind should pick up as the air mass change occurs.

Lows tonight will drop into the low to mid 30s, with some folks hitting the freezing mark in northwest MA and southern VT.

Northwest wind gusts will reach the 25-35mph level tonight, and continue into tomorrow which looks mostly sunny, blustery, and with highs in the 50s to near 60º in a few spots.

Thankfully wind continues to gust to 25mph tomorrow night and keeps the air mixed, as that will keep temps falling to only the low to mid 30s, vs. the upper 20s if we had better radiational cooling conditions.

Then we warm into the 60s Tuesday with sunshine, the 70s Wednesday with partial sunshine and a shower late, and then more scattered showers to end the week.

I will post a full report in the morning to update everybody on the week ahead and next weekend.

Have a great night!

LIGHT SHOWERS OR PERIODS OF RAIN THIS MORNING SOUTH OF RT. 2 (AND MAINLY SOUTH OF THE PIKE), WITH ISOLATED SHOWERS TO NO RAIN NORTH OF RT. 2 (JUST OVERCAST)… ANY RAIN TAPERS OFF BY EARLY AFTERNOON, WHICH SHOULD LEAD TO SOME SUNNY BREAKS LATER IN THE AFTERNOON, WITH A FEW MORE SHOWERS POSSIBLE AS A COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH… SEASONABLE AND BLUSTERY TOMORROW… WARMER TUESDAY, WICKED WARM WEDNESDAY, UNSETTLED LATE WEEK… 6:55AM SUN

Good morning everybody, I think I’ve figured out how to tame the FB Glitchy Notification Monster for the moment, so let me know via private message or email if there are any continued problems.

I spent all day on it yesterday before and after my first Covid jab, and despite a sore arm this morning, I’m feeling good so far.

Now, on to the weather!

We’re overcast this morning with temps in the 40s, and it’s fairly dry out there still, especially in the northern half of the WMass region.

Any morning showers are falling mainly along and south of the Pike so far, with some rain north of there, and just overcast skies the further north you go.

This is going to be the general trend today, as our surface low is just east of the DelMarVa Peninsula and will track east-northeast, staying well south of Nantucket Island through the day.

With drier air in place, as mentioned, and the best atmospheric lift south and east of us, it’ll be tough to get more than a tenth to maybe two-tenths of an inch of rain across portions of the region today, which will be mainly along and south of the Route 9 corridor, with a few hundredths to a tenth of an inch up to the MA/VT-NH border in WMass/CMass, and only a few sprinkles or light showers to no rain north of there in SVT/SWNH.

That’s how it looks now, and any rain will be light in intensity for the most part.

Highs today will hover around the mid 50s, and we may even see some sunny breaks in the afternoon before a cold front brings more clouds and a few showers through late in the afternoon into early evening from west to east.

For tonight, we’ll clear out and winds will pick up behind the cold front as our storm deepens through the Nova Scotia region, and high pressure builds in from the northwest.

That pressure gradient will kick winds up to 30mph at times overnight as lows bottom out in the mid 30s.

For Monday, we’re sunny but continued blustery, with highs in the 50s and wind gusts up to 30mph or so. Lows Monday night will dip into the low to mid 30s, and a few spots could dip below the freezing mark.

If you ask me, while Wednesday will be warmer, Tuesday is the pick of the upcoming week. Mostly sunny skies are expected as high pressure moves into the region, and highs will reach the mid 60s to low 70s with lighter wind. Lows will drop to the mid 40s or so as clouds increase.

By Wednesday, we might have a spot shower early as a warm front will be lifting through the region, but that will bring some clouds at times, along with warmer temps, with highs into the upper 70s – we’ll call it partly sunny on average, with lows near 50º.

On Thursday, that front may sag south and stall over the region, with a wave or two of low pressure rippling along it, bringing more showers with highs near 70 on Thursday, and in the low to mid 60s on Friday.

I will continue to refine that late-week outlook as we get closer, but for now, that’s how things look.

Have a great day, and enjoy your morning beverage of choice!
