Western Mass Weather for April 22, 2019

COPIOUS RAINFALL THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT AS A STACKED LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM LIFTS NORTHEAST OVER THE CAPE AND PUMPS RAIN NORTHWESTARD AND WESTWARD OFF THE OCEAN AND INTO SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND… BRIEF BREAK OF PARTLY SUNNY SKIES TOMORROW BEFORE A COLD FRONT BRINGS SHOWERS BACK TOMORROW NIGHT… THEN A COUPLE OF DAYS OF GENERALLY FAIR WEATHER BEFORE ANOTHER BOUT OF RAIN ARRIVES FOR FRIDAY… THE WEEKEND LOOKS PRETTY GOOD RIGHT NOW, ALTHOUGH SHOWERS ARE EXPECTED SUNDAY NIGHT WITH FAIR WEATHER EXPECTED EARLY NEXT WEEK.. FAST FLOW = SEESAW WEATHER CONDITIONS… (5:30pm Mon)

Good evening everybody, here’s my little friendly reminder that my all caps headlines are not me yelling at you. I have no formatting capability on this platform that works for all screens.

Recently, I was told to “STOP BLOODY SHOUTING!!!!” I didn’t react well. I’m human, and learned my lesson that I can’t control people’s reactions, only my own, but I just wanted to remind you of my situation.

Onward to tonight’s weather report…

SUMMARY
–As you can see in the attached radar image, what started as a very nice day is ending with copious rainfall.
–A third to as much as an inch or so of rain is expected by tomorrow morning, with the heaviest along the east slopes of the Berkshires as well as in Worcester County and northeast CT
–Temps have fallen from the 60s into the 50s where rain is ongoing, with some 60s still in the western Berkshires and Taconics
–For tonight, rain continues and will begin to dissipate from west to east before midnight and clear out of here by 2-3am in CMass
–A thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, along with brief small hail (best chance in Worcester County)
–Lows will drop into the upper 40s, and patchy fog is possible
–For tomorrow, a stray isolated shower may be lingering east of I-91, otherwise expect brief subsidence to move in for the day and dry us out with partly sunny skies expected and high temps either side of 60 degrees
–For Tuesday night a cold front will approach the region, and bring a period of scattered showers sometime between 9pm and sunrise Wednesday morning
–I think that after an isolated post-sunrise Wednesday morning shower, clouds will clear and we should see mostly sunny skies with highs in the 50s and lows in the upper 30s with breezy west winds
–Thursday looks mostly sunny for much of the day as well with highs in the low 60s and lows in the 40s
–By Thursday night, clouds will build as a northern stream low and a southern stream low will try to merge over our region for Friday
–However successful or unsuccessful that merger is, we should expect at least some scattered showers if not a widespread rain for Friday into Friday night
–Highs on Friday will be in the 50s with lows near 40 degrees
–After Saturday morning clouds, we should have a nice weekend with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 50s with a west-northwesterly flow
–By later in the afternoon on Sunday, a few showers may be possible as another cold front moves through the region Sunday night
–Any Sunday night into Monday morning showers should give way to more drying, and a fair weather start for early next week

I hope things go your way tonight, and remember if you’re stressed out, magnesium is your friend!

Peace…
——–
RAINY WEATHER IS ON THE WAY FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING… WE GET A RESPITE TOMORROW DURING THE DAY BEFORE A COLD FRONT BRINGS MORE SHOWERS DURING THE NIGHT… WE DRY FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, THEN MORE SHOWERS ARRIVE FOR FRIDAY BEFORE WE (HOPEFULLY) DRY FOR THE WEEKEND… (6:50am Monday)

Good morning everybody, our seesaw weather pattern continues with wet periods and dry periods ahead for the next seven days.

SUMMARY
–Highs will be in the mid/upper 60s today, humid
–We’ve got some scattered showers working into northern CT and even parts of Hampden County and the southern Berkshires this morning
–An upper level low pressure system will track northeast from the Delaware coastline up to the Cape today
–This will produce rainfall off the Cape and Islands that will rotate northwestward and westward off the ocean and into our region during the afternoon and for tonight
–Rain should taper off by midnight or so
–Heaviest rain will fall in northeast CT and CMass
–Expect half an inch to an inch of rainfall, generally speaking, by midnight tonight or so
–Lows will drop into the upper 40s to low 50s
–For tomorrow, clouds early should give way to a period of partly sunny skies for much of the day before a cold front advances from the west
–This will bring clouds back into the region late in the day, as well as showers and an isolated thunderstorm Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning
–Highs will be near 70 Tuesday with lows near 50 for Tuesday night
–Wednesday, after some morning clouds or a shower, will be drying with highs in the upper 50s and gusty west winds developing
–Mostly sunny skies will develop. Lows will drop to near 40 degrees!
–Thursday looks gorgeous too, mostly sunny skies with highs in the low to mid 60s and lows in the 40s with clouds building
–For Friday, more rain is forecast as another system moves through, but hopefully we will salvage a nice weekend with a period of drying

Have a great day and pack the rain gear when you are heading out the door!
