DISCUSSION
Good morning everybody, it feels like that storm that just brought snow to our high-elevation northern and western zones and heavy snow in central NY/PA was a bit of a palette cleanser, meteorologically speaking.
Of course, we’ll see what happens going forward, but for now, all I see is temperate, mostly fair, seasonable, pleasant weather conditions into early next week, which for this writer (as much as I love active and dynamic weather) is most welcome.
How about you?
Are you looking forward to more sunshine?
For today, as an upper level trough finally swings through the region, we’ll still be stuck between the surface low that ran northward through the region early yesterday, and high pressure to our southwest.
This will generate westerly and northwesterly gusts of 20-30mph at times today, with highs in the mid 40s to mid 50s from north to south.
As for our skies, some morning flurries will waft into the Berkshires, Taconics, Litchfields, and southwest VT early, but that activity will quit as the morning waxes.
Partly sunny skies early will then develop into mostly sunny skies later today.
For tonight, winds should slacken as high pressure nestles and nudges in like a sweet kitty when it needs some extra attention.
Lows will be COLD for this time of year, dropping into the upper 20s to mid 30s from north to south under mostly clear skies.
A NOTE ON FROST AND FREEZE
ADVISORIES/WATCHES/WARNINGS
The NWS stops issuing these advisories, watches and warnings when a given region is out of its growing season.
This is why the Frost Advisories are up only for Hartford, Tolland, and Windham Counties in CT, which is because their growing season starts tomorrow, April 21.
However, if our entire region (SVT, SWNH, WMass, CMass and all of NCT) were in the growing season, FROST ADVISORIES WOULD BE POSTED REGION-WIDE for tonight.
So, please know that we’re going to have widespread frost tonight and if you have tender veg, you need to take your precautions.
For Thursday, we’ll start off partly sunny, but likely transition to a mostly cloudy day with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s.
Another storm will be far north of us, and swing a weak cold front through the region Thursday night. This will help kick up southerly winds gusting over 20mph at times during the day, as well as a few scattered showers in the afternoon and evening.
Thursday night lows will drop into the low to mid 40s under partly cloudy skies.
We’ve got a pair of winners after this front clears the region, folks, with sunny skies expected as high pressure builds in from Canada, helping to produce highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s Friday and Saturday with lows either side of 40º – fair weather incoming!
Sunday looks pretty good too, but some more clouds may be present.
Still, we’ll take a partly sunny day with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s in late April and be happy about it.
Early next week looks milder with highs in the low to mid 60s, but a few showers are possible Monday night into Tuesday.
Still, that system should fall into the “No-Big-Whoop” category, so even though we’re talking about the weather and its ability to change on a dime in New England, I’m pretty optimistic that we have a lovely stretch of peaceful conditions on the way.
And to that I say, hooray.
Have a great day!
