[EARLY BLACK ICE AND FROST GIVES WAY TO A GORGEOUS, ALBEIT BREEZY DAY…A FEW SHOWERS IN NORTHWEST MA AND SVT TONIGHT LEAD TO ANOTHER MOSTLY SUNNY MONDAY… THEN WE LOOK TO TUESDAY AFTERNOON FOR MORE WIND AND POTENTIAL FOR STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WITH COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE TUESDAY NIGHT… COLD AND WINDY WEDNESDAY… NICE THURSDAY… FRIDAY RAINSTORM THAT MAY LINGER INTO SATURDAY… ACTIVE PATTERN CONTINUES… (8:50am Sunday)
Good morning everybody, thanks for all your pretty snow picks yesterday, and for all the soup love from my dinner last night!! I will go back to that post and write my recipe down, it’s nothing fancy, but was yummy.
For today, any morning frost and black ice with our upper 20s temps goes away, and a southwest flow develops that will produce winds gusting to 30mph as high pressure pushes east off of the eastern seaboard.
Highs will reach the upper 50s to low 60s, a gorgeous day on the way!! Buh bye snow. At least most of it, some sun-sheltered high terrain areas may hold on to a little, but by tomorrow it should be ALL gone.
For tonight, clouds increase with a weakening cold frontal approach. Some scattered showers are possible in SVT, northwest MA, the northern Taconics, maybe western Franklin/Hampshire Counties, but they should dry up on approach the CT River Valley. Lows will be in the mid 30s to low 40s.
For Monday, a north wind gusting to 20mph will setup behind the front, and in response to a coastal storm that will be tracking well south of Nantucket late tonight and tomorrow.
This will cause more of a partly sunny day in northeast CT, southern Worcester County, while sun will be increasing in our northwest areas like WMass, SVT and SWNH.
Highs will be in the low to mid 50s, and lows will dip into the upper 20s to low 30s.
Tuesday is a day to watch, especially for the afternoon.
A powerful low pressure system will tracking east in southern Canada, and it will be orienting itself from NW to SE (a “negative” orientation), which will produce a lot of wind shear within an approaching strong cold frontal boundary.
The morning may start with some partial sun, but clouds will build, and then showers will arrive by afternoon.
Thereafter, we could see a squall line develop with heavy downpours, and possible strong thunderstorms that could produce strong winds and hail, so something to keep an eye on for Tuesday afternoon. Highs will again be in the low to mid 50s with lows in the low 30s and the potential for any lingering showers behind the front to flip to snow in the high terrain as winds pick up out of the northwest.
Wednesday looks windy, sunny and cold with highs in the low to mid 40s and lows in the upper 20s to low 30s.
Thursday will see clouds build, but it should be dry most of the day. We then have to look to Thursday night into Friday (and possibly Saturday) for a longer-duration rainstorm, but lots of uncertainty remains, so I will update you as we get closer.
Have a good day folks, and stay healthy!
