Western Mass Weather for April 19, 2019

THE TWO RAINIEST DAYS OUT OF THE NEXT SEVEN APPEAR TO BE SATURDAY AND MONDAY… OTHERWISE, SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE AT TIMES THROUGH TUESDAY, BUT DRY PERIODS LIKE WE SAW TODAY WILL BE MIXED IN THROUGH TUESDAY AS WELL… STILL HOPEFUL FOR DRYING BY MID WEEK… FLOOD WATCHES CONTINUE FOR SATURDAY FOR THE ENTIRE REGION, WITH CURRENT WIND ADVISORIES IN CMASS AND NE CT EXPIRING TONIGHT… (5:50pm Fri)

Good evening everybody, whether you’re celebrating Passover or Easter this weekend (or neither of those) we’ll have showers to contend with after 8pm or 9pm tonight and into early Saturday morning, with more waves of showers and downpours moving in during Saturday morning and lasting into tomorrow’s early evening.

Expected rain amounts have come down as of today, but we can still expect anywhere from 3/4s to 1 1/2″ of rainfall, for most of us. A few folks could exceed that upper limit where any downpours train over a region, or if any thunderstorms develop.

SUMMARY
–For tonight, temps won’t drop much with lows near 60 degrees and south winds gusting to 30mph at times
–Sometime after 8pm or 9pm, a wave of showers, some heavy, will track south to north through the region, especially west of I-91, translating to the east overnight
–From thereafter, scattered showers will overspread the region into the pre-dawn hours of Saturday morning, and the post-dawn hours too
–Highs on Saturday will reach well into the 60s with continued southerly wind gusts 20-30mph
–Low pressure will slowly track south to north up the spine of the Appalachian Mountains and through PA and NY state to our west tomorrow
–This will bring waves of rain, heavy at times with isolated thunderstorms possible
–The inclement weather should last much of the day, and start to wane between sunset and midnight
–Lows will be cooler, into the low 50s, but still mild for this time of year
–For Sunday, at least one wave of scattered showers should move through by later morning into the afternoon, but then dissipate thereafter with highs in the 60s and lows near 50
–Another wave of low pressure may move up and along the slow-to-get-the-hell-out-of-here north-to-south-oriented frontal boundary and eastern U.S. trough (want some more hyphens? Step right this way!)
–This could bring another round of heavier rain, before we FINALLY start to kick this thing out of here to the east
–Still, it will be a slow transition and some scattered showers are possible Tuesday as well
–Highs will be well into the 60s through the Tuesday time frame, with a chance to reach 70 degrees for Tuesday
–Some drying and clearing looks possible from mid week into the late week period, but much uncertainty remains given how far out that period is as of this writing

Have a great night!

FLOOD WATCHES CONTINUE FOR THE WHOLE REGION FOR SATURDAY… BALMY SOUTHERLY WINDS TODAY WILL BRING A FEW SHOWERS OR DRIZZLE, BUT A FEW SUNNY BREAKS POSSIBLE TOO… LATE TONIGHT AND BY TOMORROW MORNING OUR LOW BRINGS HEAVIER RAINFALL, LASTING THROUGH SATURDAY… SCATTERED SHOWERS POSSIBLE THROUGH SUNDAY… POSSIBLY MORE RAIN MONDAY BEFORE THIS WHOLE SLOW MOVING MORASS OF MEH MOVES ON OUT BY MID-WEEK…. (6:30am Friday)

Good morning everybody, while I anticipate mushrooms will begin to sprout on the insides of my nostrils, it’s far more important to get you to the day’s details, so I’ll save the sharing of my impending mirth with you for a later date.

SUMMARY
–Any patchy fog burns off, with a mostly cloudy day on tap
–Highs will be 65-70 degrees, and a few sunny breaks are possible
–Also possible are a few scattered showers or drizzle patches, but the daylight hours should be, on average, fairly dry
–Southwest winds will gust to 30mph at times, bringing an increase in humidity
–For tonight, moisture begins to become deeper as our low SLOWLY crawls north and east toward New England
–Expect at least scattered showers, and an increase of said showers by or just after midnight
–Lows will hang near 60 degrees for the mildest night since last warm season
–Heavier rainfall should be moving in by tomorrow morning, and an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out
–We’ll see downpours at times, and with already saturated grounds and higher river levels, some flooding will be possible by Saturday night
–Highs will be in the low to mid 60s, with showers continuing at night and lows in the low 50s
–Showers should wane after sunset for WMass and surrounding counties
–For Sunday, just a chance of a few scattered showers with mostly cloudy skies and highs in the low to mid 60s as our system slowly moves east
–However, another area of low pressure may move up and along the boundary near our region for Monday, bringing another round of rain
–It looks like we have to get to middle of next week before we can get into a bit of a pattern shift and get this low out of our region, and replace it with some drier air!

Have a great day!
