Western Mass Weather for April 18, 2019

FLOOD WATCHES ARE POSTED ACROSS THE ENTIRE REGION FOR FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING… THIS PERTAINS TO STREET/DRAINAGE FLOODING, AS WELL AS SPECIFICALLY ALONG THE CT RIVER WITH 1-2″ OF WATER ON THE WAY COMBINING WITH SNOW MELT FURTHER UP RIVER… SCATTERED SHOWERS AND DRIZZLE PATCHES FROM TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING, WITH SHOWERS INCREASING TOMORROW NIGHT AND HEAVY RAIN SATURDAY MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON… (7:20pm Thurs)

Good evening everybody, low level moisture increased this afternoon and has produced drizzle as well as a few showers across the area.

This will continue tonight, as a warm front will push north through our region.

Current temperatures will fall a little more, and then rise overnight and end up in the upper 40s to low 50s, with patchy fog possible.

For Friday, our low pressure system will slowly approach from the west. At first, we should be like today until the late afternoon with a few showers, and some drizzle.

However, it will be much milder with highs in the upper 60s and southerly winds gusting to 25mph or so at times.

By evening, the storm will be tracking closer, and along with it, a low level jet streak that will produce more lift over the region Friday night, and especially Saturday morning into the afternoon.

Showers will increase Friday night, which will be VERY mild with lows near 60 degrees!

Some isolated thunderstorms are possible during the pre-dawn hours of Saturday morning, and downpours will be moving into the region.

Because the storm will be slow to track east, it will run heavy through here from south to north, bringing 1-2″ of rain by Saturday night.

Saturday highs will be in the mid 60s with low near 50s and scattered showers continuing.

Now it looks like we’ll have a very slow wind down with a mostly cloudy Sunday featuring some scattered showers, and partly sunny skies for the first part of the week with a few scattered showers at times.

It’s a good evening to snuggle up or wrap yourself in a blanket and read a book.

Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy it…

FLOOD WATCHES ARE POSTED FOR SVT AND SWNH FOR SATURDAY… MORNING SHOWERS, A FEW MIXED WITH SLEET OR SNOW CHANGING TO ALL RAIN WILL WANE TOWARD LATE MORNING OR NOON… PATCHY DRIZZLE OR LIGHT SCATTERED SHOWERS REMAIN FOR REST OF THE DAY AND NIGHT… MORE SCATTERED SHOWERS TOMORROW LEAD TO STEADIER AND HEAVIER RAIN LATE TOMORROW NIGHT AND THROUGH MUCH OF SATURDAY… SUNDAY AM WILL SEE SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS WITH DRYING BY AFTERNOON… (6:25am Thursday)

Good morning everybody, we’ve had some showers move through with some overhead currently. I was woken up by a sleet shower that dropped some ice pellets… perhaps you experienced the same?

Let me know, please.

The next four days will be dominated by clouds, with only one real super wet day, that being Saturday. The rest of the the time will feature showers at times, drizzle, and mostly cloudy conditions, so let’s jump into the details!

SUMMARY
–High pressure to our east and an approaching warm front to the southwest will keep the clouds locked in today
–Highs will only reach the low 50s today, so it will be rather cool out there
–Scattered showers and patchy drizzle will combine with southerly wind gusts to 25-30mph
–At times, it will just be mostly cloudy
–Lows tonight will not drop much, bottoming out to either side of 50 degrees with a few showers or drizzle expected
–Friday is another similar day with scattered showers and drizzle given drier air aloft that will squash any attempts at atmospheric lifting
–It will be milder with temps in the 60s and continued southerly wind gusts 20-30mph
–Lows will only be in the upper 50s, very mild!
–By Friday night, our cutoff low pressure system will be tracking northeast and close enough to our region to introduce a strong low level jet streak overhead by early Saturday
–This will ensure that moisture overspreads the entire region at all levels
–With this strong lift moving in, showers will increase later Friday night and heavy rain is expected after midnight and through all of Saturday into Saturday night
–Rainfall of 1-2″+ is expected
–Highs will rise well into the 60s on Saturday
–By Sunday, we should expect a showery morning, but showers should wane in the afternoon
–Expect another mostly cloudy day with highs in the 60s
–Street flooding, and especially river flooding is possible in SVT and SWNH for Saturday and Sunday with saturated ground, and river rises that have not yet fully receded

The Wettening approacheth.

Proceed with umbrellas, buckets, galoshes, slickers, and other rain-based accoutrement from the 1950s.

Have a great day!
