Western Mass Weather for April 13, 2021

A PAIR OF WARM WINNERS FOLLOWED BY A PAIR OF RAINY, WINDY AND EVEN SNOWY DAYS TO END THE WORK WEEK… OUR WEEKEND LOOKS SEASONABLY SWEET, WITH MORE SHOWERS POSSIBLE EARLY NEXT WEEK… SOME HILLTOWN, BERKSHIRES AND SOUTHERN VT MOUNTAINOUS AREAS HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR A 2-4″ OR EVEN 3-6″ WET SNOWFALL THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY, BUT IT’S JUST A LOW CHANCE AT THE MOMENT… 7:00AM TUES…

Good morning folks, our world keeps spinning and orbiting and sailing through the Cosmos, and we keep reconvening here for some local weather news, and for that I am most grateful.

For today and tomorrow, we’ve got a couple of warm Spring days on the way before our inclement end to the work week Thursday and Friday, which unlike yesterday’s comparative and precipitative dud, looks like a decent soaker with around an inch of rain possible (and inches of snow for some? We shall see).

We’ll have periods of sun and clouds today, Tuesday, and highs will reach up into the low to mid 60s with light wind and dry conditions. Lows tonight will drop into the low 40s under partly cloudy skies.

For Wednesday, we’re even warmer under partly sunny skies. Highs could reach the 65-70º range, and if we can get some more prolonged sunny periods, we may fully enter the low 70s in the Pioneer Valley points south and east.

Clouds will increase at night due an upper low system tracking east-southeast toward the upper Mid-Atlantic coastline.

Lows will bottom out in the low 40s, and some showers are possible late Wednesday night into very early Thursday morning.

Thursday is looking like a raw, rainy day with highs only in the mid to upper 40s, and rain could fall moderately to heavily at times.

By Thursday evening, a secondary surface low will develop as it reaches the coastline near New Jersey as the upper low drifts into PA and NY.

This will help draw colder air into the region at elevation, and should start to mix the rain with wet snowflakes in the northern Berkshires, northwestern hilltowns and southern Greens in VT.

Exactly how this process unfolds will determine how much wet snow we can actually see in our region, so it bears watching.

With lows expected to drop into the low to mid 30s Thursday night and only stay in the mid 30s to low 40s for highs region-wide on Friday with continued precipitation across the region, we have to continue to monitor this potentially late-season wintry event.

If the variables align perfectly, we cannot rule out a 2-4″ or 3-6″ wet snowfall in the high terrain parts of our region north of the Rt. 9 corridor in WMass/CMass, and even down into the southern Berkshires/Taconics, Litchfield Hills, and western Hampden County.

Friday’s rain and snow abates by evening, and lows are expected to drop into the low to mid 30s.

The weekend looks sweet and seasonable, with partly sunny skies on Saturday and highs in the upper 40s to low 50s as high pressure noses into the region.

Mostly sunny skies rule our Sunday with highs well into the 50s, with clouds building in late with a chance of showers by next Monday.

Have a great day, and stay tuned for our late-week stormy developments!

P.S. The blues in the attached graphic show the potential for snow late Thursday night into Friday morning, while the greens indicate rain.
