Western Mass Weather for 12/11/19

COLD AND WINDY AS THE NIGHT WEARS ON… WATCH FOR SLIPPERY SIDE ROADS… FAIR, COLD AND CALMER TOMORROW… CLOUDIER WITH SNOW/ICE SHOWERS EARLY ON FRIDAY, SHOWERS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING, THEN A SATURDAY SOAKER… SHOWERY SUNDAY, FAIR AND COLD MONDAY, AND THEN WE CONTINUE TO MONITOR FOR A SNOWSTORM ON TUESDAY… (5:50pm Wednesday)

Good evening everybody, we’ve got a cccccold night ahead with west winds gusting up to 25-35mph at times, highest in the hills and mountains.

Lows are going to drop into the mid to upper teens, so wind chills will dip into the single digits.

#BoooooHoooooo

Tomorrow is gorgeous, sunny, cold, calming winds after a breezy morning, highs in the 25-30 degree range.

Lows will bottom out in the upper teens to low 20s as southerly flow gets ready to invade the WMass region.

For Friday, we could see a showery, drizzly period as the morning wears on, and with cold air in place, this could take the form of snow showers or sleet, or even freezing rain/drizzle.

Highs will reach the 35-40 degree range, so we should flip to plain rain showers in the afternoon and evening.

It is around midnight and into Saturday morning that the coastal really gets its act together and hurls itself will nilly into New England.

Saturday will be a soaker with 1.5-2″ of rain expected, street flooding, and even some small stream flooding possible as snow melt re-commences.

Highs will reach the upper 40s with showers Saturday night and lows in the 30s.

Sunday looks like we will be stuck in a wraparound cyclonic flow state, and with cooler air working in, we should see some scattered showers with highs near 40 degrees and lows in the 20s.

Monday looks colder with highs near freezing, but at least mostly sunny skies are expected.

Then we watch the Monday night to Tuesday night period for a developing storm system that could track to our south, and bring accumulating snowfall back to the region, especially north of the MassPike.

I will keep you updated on all of it, have a great night!

It is still snowing moderate to heavily in northeast CT and southern Worcester County into EMass at 6am, but snow has broken up over much of the WMass region, with a few snow showers here and there, and some brief moderate bursts in the Berkshires.

Snow will be ending from west to east this morning, but given that it’s generally in the 20s across the entire region, black ice from the freezing of yesterday’s rainfall on surfaces, plus fresh snowfall will cause slippery surface conditions, so be alert.

I will summarize things for you so you can skim and get on with your day:

SUMMARY
–Snow quits later this morning, clouds decrease, and we get a mostly sunny day
–Expect highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s
–Tonight, a secondary cold front sweeps through and will bring a few scattered snow showers to the Taconics, Berkshires, Litchfields, southern VT, maybe even reaching into the western hilltowns this evening
–Many of us should have clear enough skies to look southwest after sunset to see the Venus/Saturn conjunction (see attached image)
–West winds gust 20-30mph behind this front, so with lows dropping into the mid to upper teens, wind chills will reach down into the single digits late at night and into our early Thursday morning
–In other words, bundle up!
–Thursday will see winds slacken as the day wears on, and high pressure builds in from the west
–It will easily be the pick of the week, with mostly sunny skies, highs 25-30 degrees, and calming conditions
–Lows will drop into the upper teens to low 20s
–Southerly flow will already be working north into the region on Friday, definitely a milder look as compared to the past couple of days
–While a few high elevation areas in the region (like SVT) could see a snow or ice onset Friday evening, many of us will just begin as rain and stay that way from Friday evening through Saturday
–This is going to be a soaker for later Friday night and through Saturday, with over 1.5″ of rain expected, maybe exceeding 2″ in spots
–Highs Friday reach 35-40 degrees, and lows won’t be much less than that
–Saturday is rainy and breezy, with highs in the 40s, and showers are expected at night, too, with lows in the mid to upper 30s
–A very raw 24 hours from Friday night through Saturday night is expected, so gear up for your soup making activities
–For Sunday, a few mixed rain and snow showers first half of the day should give way to drying second half of the day with a few sunny breaks, highs upper 30s to low 40s and lows in the 20s
–Monday is cold and fair with highs in the 30s
–Tuesday continues to signal another storm, with a snowy onset, but depending on track may change to ice or rain, so stay tuned on that

Have a great day, and drive carefully this morning…
