Western Mass Regional Weather for October 7, 2019

WAVES OF RAIN FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT ACROSS THE REGION… PATCHY FOG POSSIBLE TOO… MID TO LATE WEEK MAY FEATURE BREEZY, COPIOUS RAINS ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE PIKE IN CMASS AND WMASS, MAINLY EAST OF I-91… (8pm Monday)

Good evening everybody, waves of rain are finally washing through all of the region this evening after being relegated to mostly west of the I-91 corridor and into SVT for much of the day.

Patchy fog will be possible tonight, along with the rain. Lows will drop into the 45-50 degree range, and winds are already turning northerly behind the front as it passes south.

After some morning patchy fog, Tuesday is looking real nice, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 60s. Lows will be in the low to mid 40s.

Wednesday through Friday is tricky, as our ocean low pressure to the south will be slow to go anywhere, blocked downstream from a quick departure.

If this thing bobs north and close enough to the coast, it’s counterclockwise motion with hurl arms of rain northwestward and westward into southeastern MA, RI and eastern CT, and may get far enough north to the latitude of the MassPike, or even the Route 9 corridor.

It will be tougher to get steadier bands of showers west of the I-91 corridor, but some scattered showers are possible there Wednesday and Thursday.

I will have to keep you updated, but there is also a low chance for COPIOUS rainfall in northeast CT, southern half of CMass, which could extend into eastern Hampden and eastern Hampshire Counties, meaning up to 3 or 4″ of rain possible.

Again, that’s a low chance right now, but worth mentioning.

Have a great evening, and stay warm and dry folks!

ISOLATED SHOWERS THIS MORNING GIVES WAY TO STEADIER AND HEAVIER RAINFALL BY LATE MORNING/EARL AFTERNOON WEST AND NORTH OF THE NORTHAMPTON AREA… THIS RAIN SHIELD WILL PRESS EAST THROUGH THE DAY AND NIGHT TONIGHT… GUSTY SW WINDS TODAY TOO… TUESDAY IS BY FAR THE PICK OF THE WEEK… THE EXPECTATION FOR FAIR WEATHER FOR MID TO LATE WEEK IS VANISHING… LOW PRESSURE STALLED TO OUR SOUTH THROUGH THIS PERIOD WILL KEEP US COOL AND IN THE CLOUDS WITH OCCASIONAL SCATTERED SHOWERS…. THANKS, WIND OFF OF THE WATER! (7am Monday)

Good morning everybody, we have a balmy start to our day with temps in the low to mdi 60s with some isolated showers around the region.

Wait… what? Oh…. you want double-dashes? You’re Demanding them, are you? Ok, who am I to withhold them from you…

DOUBLE DASHES (A/K/A SUMMARY)
–A cold front to our west is pushing east with time, with a southwest to northeast flow along and ahead of the boundary
–SW wind gusts are already reaching speeds of 20-30mph across the region this morning
–This will increase to 25-40mph as the day wears on (with any upper limit gusts in that range likely relegated to the high terrain, as well as north of the Rt. 2)
–A very isolated power outage is possible
–Pack the rain gear today, even though you won’t need it as much this morning
–Isolated showers this morning will give way steadier rain in the Taconics, Berkshires and SVT first either side of noon (leading to totals of .5-1″ or so of rain)
–This rain will then push east slowly through the rest of WMass, northwest CT and southwest NH by mid to late afternoon and into tonight, but weaken as it moves away from the best area of atmospheric lift well to the northwest
–Areas in CMass, northeast CT should see less rain, somewhere around .2-.5″ of rainfall
–Highs will reach the mid to upper 60s today with decent humidity and dewpoints in the low 60s
–Any rain tonight will end by midnight with lows near 50 degrees and humidity being shunted southeastward
–High pressure builds in briefly for Tuesday, the pick of the week.
–Expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the low to mid 60s and light north winds
–Lows Tuesday night will dip into the upper 30s to mid 40s
–Thereafter, we are watching a stubborn, slow-moving low pressure system south of New England that develops along the stalled cold front that will move south through the region today
–High pressure will set up over the Canadian Maritimes, and this squeeze play between these two systems will generate east and northeast winds off of the coastal waters
–In the Autumn, this means clouds and scattered showers at times, especially the further east you go
–Expect Wednesday through Friday to be mostly cloudy with occasional scattered showers and highs in the mid to upper 50s with lows in the mid 40s
–The Berkshires may see more partial sunshine by Friday, being furthest away from this coastal flow, but we’ll see
–If we’re lucky, we’ll see this blocked pattern unwind a bit by the weekend with more partly sunny skies on average and highs near 60 degrees

Have a great day and stay dry!
