Western Mass Regional Weather for May 7, 2022

[THE WIND RETURNS] A STRETCH OF WINDY DAYS IS UPON THE WMASS REGION INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK… CLOUDY, COOL AND MOSTLY DRY TODAY, MORE SUN FOR MOTHER’S DAY, THEN FAIR WEATHER AND INCREASING TEMPS THROUGHOUT THIS COMING WEEK… A TASTE OF SUMMAH IS ON THE WAY BY NEXT WEEK’S END… (8:05am Sat)

Good morning everybody, the difference between our weather today and our weather a week from today is going to be the difference between late March and late June – a remarkable difference in conditions.

For today, we’ve got a very cool, dry, cloudy and breezy day ahead as a blocky pattern sets up with low pressure to our south and high pressure to our north, both of which won’t be budging much.

However, our high pressure will have the upper hand in this meteorological duel, and continue to slowly bleed drier air further south from the CT/MA state line down toward the southern CT coastline, which should keep much of if not all of the greater WMass region (including the southern Taconics and northern CT) dry (though a few light showers are possible in southern portions of northern CT).

Highs today will only reach the upper 40s to mid 50s, and the pressure gradient between the low to the south and high to the north will produce east to northeasterly winds gusting to 25-35mph under cloudy skies.

For tonight, skies will remain mostly cloudy with northeast breezes and lows in the upper 30s to 40º.

Mother’s Day Sunday still looks unseasonably cool with highs in the mid to upper 50s, but at least temps will come up a bit, and we’ll enjoy partly sunny skies on average with continued easterly winds gusting 20-30mph at times. Lows will again drop into the upper 30s.

As our low pressure system finally drops south down the coast away from us, we’ll turn the corner next week with temps increasing the whole way. Each day will be milder and warmer than the next, and abundant sunshine looks likely.

Highs on Monday will reach the low to mid 60s, and up into the mid to upper 60s Tuesday with lows both nights in the upper 30s to low 40s.

By Wednesday, as long as a final parting coastal wave from our meandering coastal low to our south “behaves” and stays to our south, we should continue to see abundant star shine and highs cresting the 70º mark.

After that? Thursday could see temps WELL into the 70s and up into the low 80s for some, and we could even see low to mid 80s for temps on Friday into the weekend, when some thunderstorms might visit our region as the humidity increases.

A little taste of Summer looks to be on the way by late next week and next weekend, so stay tuned for updates.

Have a great day and bundle up!
