[A.M. REPORT] STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE BY EARLY TO MID AFTERNOON… MAIN THREATS WOULD BE ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND SMALL HAIL… THE REST OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND LOOKS LOVELY, AND INCREASINGLY WARMER… A BORDERLINE HOT TUESDAY TAMPS DOWN BY MID TO LATE WEEK WITH UNSETTLED CONDITIONS ANTICIPATED… 7:50am Saturday…
Good morning everybody, while southern VT and areas north of the Rt. 2 corridor got less rainfall, south of there we see a wide range of a quarter inch to about an inch of much-needed rainfall over the rest of the greater WMass region. It’s always nice for me to wake up in the middle of the night to the sound of rain falling down.
Temps are quite mild in the 60s this morning, and dewpoints are right there too, with some fog reported in foggy Worcester.
Temps will rise with any fog evaporating, as highs reach the low to mid 70s, and maybe the upper 70s after this cloudy early morning period morphs into partly sunny skies by late morning into the early afternoon.
Should this occur, it would help foster more instability to align with cooler mid-level temps from a weakening trough that will track east into our region today. In addition, a cold front at the surface will be tracking east and help force air to rise as it moves into the region, so all of these factors will combine with moist air to produce a period of showers and thunderstorms arriving by early to mid afternoon.
Yes, some of us will see some isolated showers prior to that aforementioned timeframe, but the main activity moves through between 1-6pm today.
Some storms could produce small hail and isolated damaging wind gusts, along with torrential rainfall that could produce isolated street flooding.
The front sweeps through this evening, and any shower or storm activity will abate, and lows should drop down into the low 50s with clearing skies, and a few areas of patchy fog.
For Sunday, it’s a whole new ballgame, with lower humidity, sunny skies, and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, very nice indeed! Lows will bottom out in the mid to upper 50s under mostly clear skies.
For Memorial Monday, it’ll be a bit summery with increasing humidity, a light west wind, mostly sunny skies, and highs in the mid to upper 80s, so outdoor activities are a 100% go for Sunday and Monday!
Lows Monday night will in the mid to upper 60s and it’ll be rather uncomfortable sleeping weather, with a hot day expected for Tuesday.
Highs will rise into the upper 80s to low 90s under partly sunny skies with lows near 60º as a backdoor cold front presses into the region from the northeast.
This will tamp temps down into the either-side-of-80º level for Wednesday with a few showers possible by the afternoon.
We may be seeing a slight pattern shift with low pressure stalling out over south-central Canada later next week, which could send a series of showery waves through the region from west to east, with highs expected to be in the 70s to low 80s range.
Hopefully we get some sky water, because I’m starting to hear rumblings from farmers that they’re growing more unhappy about what is turning into a drought situation, with moderate drought already reported in northeast CT and southern Worcester County MA.
Have a great day, and if you’d like a different way to support my work here and you live in the Pioneer Valley, check out my apparel sale which ends tomorrow, thanks!
