A NICER END TO THE WEEKEND… STILL BELOW AVERAGE TEMPS WITH GUSTY WINDS AND A COLD SUNDAY NIGHT, BUT TEMPS WARM THIS UPCOMING WEEK… NEXT RAIN CHANCE IS TUESDAY AFTERNOON INTO WEDNESDAY WITH A WARM FRONTAL PASSAGE… SEASONABLE WARMTH ARRIVES BY LATE WEEK WITH MORE RAIN POSSIBLE BY SUNDAY… A NOTE ON YESTERDAY… HAPPY FATHER’S DAY… 7:55am Sunday…
Good morning everybody, I need to start this morning’s report by addressing the rainfall that transpired yesterday.
If you’ve been following me for a while, I have tended to have a social media meltdown when I blew a forecast or weather report in the past, at least once per year.
While that is not forthcoming today at that level, I do need you to know that I always, always feel terrible when I make such mistakes, because I know many of you rely on me for making and/or adjusting your plans, whatever form they may take. I’m not happy this morning.
Truth be told, I was trying to enjoy some personal time, trying to mostly have a day off after my morning report and go see Bonnie Raitt at Tanglewood with my girlfriend and her family, which I did, and we got soaked like everybody else did there.
What looked in the morning to be some scattered showers in the evening, turned into a more-developed rainfall, and I dropped the ball as I went out to the Berkshires in the morning and didn’t keep tabs on developments after I published my daily weather digest.
As I grow deeper into my middle age, I realize that I am going to make mistakes (especially with New England weather), and I feel very badly about it, but I can’t change yesterday’s blown call.
I wanted to acknowledge my slip to you, because I appreciate your readership and support very much.
I will always try to do better in the future, and do need to note that if there is ever a threat of severe weather, I always am connected and ready to update you, as you’ve experienced in the past if you’ve followed me for any length of time.
Moving forward, we dipped into the upper 30s in southern VT and it snowed about 1.5″ on top of Mt. Washington, with many of us seeing lows in the 40s and low 50s.
We still have some remnant rain in parts of CMass and northeast CT into eastern New England, but sunshine has broken out in a lot of WMass, western CT and southern VT back into NY state as our late-season winter-like storm pulls away to the east.
Northwest winds will still gust 20-30mph today in the storm’s and upper trough’s wake, and highs should crest into the mid 60s to low 70s under mostly sunny skies west and partly sunny skies east.
For tonight, winds should slacken as the storm pulls out to sea, with lows dropping into the mid to upper 40s.
A giant upper level ridge over the center of the country, which is causing major heat to continue there, will nudge east to start our work week and produce a mostly sunny day with highs in the low to upper 70s with lighter northwest wind. Lows will drop into the low 50s.
By Tuesday, a warm frontal boundary should be floating toward New England, and will bring some level of shower activity with it, likely arriving by Tuesday afternoon and night and lasting into Wednesday, with a few thunderstorms possible.
Highs Tuesday will be chillier with more clouds around, in the upper 60s to low 70s and with lows in the 50s.
Wednesday highs will not be much higher, mostly in the low to mid 70s as the front clears the region by night time, with lows in the 50s.
The late week period into the first part of the weekend looks way more seasonable as we experience our first days past the Summer Solstice which arrives Tuesday.
Highs will reach the upper 70s to low 80s on Thursday, and then the low to mid 80s on Friday and Saturday with partly to mostly sunny skies expected, and another chance of rainfall by Sunday into Monday of next week.
Have a great day, and enjoy the rest of your weekend…
