Good morning everybody, we’ve got a pair of scorchahs to move through this weekend, so visit your favorite swimming hole, take cold showers or baths, shove your face in a pile of mushy ice like that old bulldog meme, lay in front of 7 fans, stay in air conditioning, drink water, cry by the basement dehumidifier like yours truly, or just grin and bear it, or even laugh and love it if you consider yourself a relative of the reptiles, because the hot heat is here!
For today, we start with a little patchy fog in a few spots, but that burns off and we’re off to a hot day with mostly sunny skies, and actually tolerable humidity with dew points either side of 60º. Could be a lot worse! Highs will reach the upper 80s to mid 90s with a few 97º readings possible in the southern valley. Wind should be light southwest.
For tonight, lows will drop into the upper 60s to low 70s under mostly clear skies, which sets us up for the heat wave’s grand finale on Sunday.
Highs will soar well into the 90s, and push 100º for some of us. Humidity during the day time should be below oppressive levels, but dewpoints will climb into the 60s with southwest winds gusting to 25mph at times.
Heat indices should push into the low 100s, and likely stay just below the need to issue Excessive Heat Warning, but Heat Advisories are in place for all of Sunday and much of the region, so those will hold.
By afternoon, a few scattered showers or thunderstorms will be expected, and could last into the evening.
Lows will land in the upper 60s to mid 70s as oppressive humidity floods the region. It will be awful for sleeping tomorrow night, so do the best you can. A few showers will be possible too.
On Monday our cold front presses into the region, and it should be mostly cloudy which may help limit severe thunderstorm activity in the afternoon.
Highs will reach the 80s to near 90º, and it will be very humid.
Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible should we get any sunny breaks to heat the surface, and straight line winds would be the issue to be concerned about, with no tornado chances expected.
Hopefully, the cold front will turn into a line of showers and downpours, as need the rain to be better distributed, but even then, it’s a story of haves and have-nots, with some folks getting over an inch of rainfall, some less than half an inch.
By Monday night, showers quit, lows drop into the low 60s, and drier air FINALLY advects into the region for Tuesday and Wednesday with mostly sunny skies and LOW humidity, and seasonable/more tolerable temps.
Highs Tuesday will be in the upper 70s to low 80s, woo hoo! Lows in the mid to upper 50s, yahooski!!!!
Wednesday is warmer, but still seasonable, with highs in the low to mid 80s and lows in the low to mid 60s with dry air in place.
By Thursday, another frontal boundary moves in and brings more showers and thunderstorms with highs in the low to mid 80s, but we should clear it out by Friday with another mostly sunny day and highs in the low 80s.
This long-duration first heat wave of 2022 is coming to close by Monday, folks, but we have a hot weekend to get through, with the peak tomorrow.
Have a great day, and stay hydrated!
