Good morning folks, some of us awoke to some showers and even a few rumbles of thunder up in west county (western Franklin) early this morning but those are weakening into northeast CT and CMass. We’ve got heat and humidity in the forecast through the weekend with our first heat wave, along with showers and potentially strong to severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and Sunday afternoon with more tolerable summer conditions by early next week, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Good morning everybody, rise and jump! Get up and sweat! Get down and give me 20! These are notes to self, by the way.

This is my new reaction to this heat and humidity, to just hurl myself into it instead of cowering from it.

Who am I kidding, I’ll be sobbing in the basement today, thinking I’m emptying the dehumidifer of collected air moisture, when really it will be filled with the re-condensed vapor from my own tears and perspiration.

Now that I’ve produced such an inspiring image in your mind so early in the day, let’s jump into the humid details of the upcoming days of our lives!

For today, we started off with a little area of showers and a few thunder rumbles that dove southeast out of NY and through WMass. It dropped almost two-tenths of an inch in northwest MA, so we’ll take these little rainy gains when we can get them.

These showers are weakening into northeast CT and CMass, and will be history soon.

For the rest of the day, while an isolated shower or storm could pop in this hot and humid environment, most of us should see mostly sunny skies with no rain, and highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s, with a few upper 90s possible in the southern valley of WMass and north-central CT.

It will be quite humid with dewpoints in the mid 60s to low 70s, with heat indices pushing into the upper 90s to 100º, so stay hydrated and find ways to keep cool, folks!

For tonight, it will quite humid and lows will only sit down into the upper 60s to mid 70s – blech.

On Thursday, Heat Advisories continue from today through 8pm tomorrow, with another hot and humid day expected with highs in the low to mid 90s under mostly sunny skies.

However, we will have a surface low swinging far north of us, and this will send a frontal boundary towards our region by afternoon.

There will be decent wind shear ahead of it, decent instability, and good moisture to help produce a broken line of showers, downpours and thunderstorms, which may become strong to severe.

Local damaging wind gusts are possible, along with hail and heavy rainfall.

The storm that is responsible for the front will be pretty far away, so it’s uncertain how much ooomph will be associated with this front and consequently these storms, but it’s something I will be monitoring so I can keep you updated.

Lows Thursday night will drop into the low to mid 60s as showers and storms clear the region, and the front moves through.

Highs on Friday will still be very warm to hot, reaching the mid 80s to low 90s with less humid conditions under mostly sunny skies. Lows will be in the low to mid 60s.

Saturday is another wonderful, sunny, but hot day with highs in the upper 80s to mid 90s as our first-of-2022 heat wave continues.

Humidity will be increasing by Saturday night into Sunday as a stronger cold front approaches the region with a legit air mass change behind it for Monday evening into Tuesday and Wednesday.

Highs on Sunday should reach the upper 80s to mid 90s as the last day of our heat wave arrives, with some upper 90s possible.

We’ll start off mostly sunny, but we’ll be expecting showers and thunderstorms by afternoon and evening, which may last into early Monday.

Northwest flow establishes itself after days and days of southwest flow, and as such temps will tamp down into the low to mid 80s for highs Monday and Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and lows near 60º with lower humidity.

This will be a welcome reprieve from this July heat and humidity blast!

Have a great day, folks, and stay cool and hydrated!

“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
