[FRI-7:05AM] 1ST HEAT WAVE LOOKING MORE LIKELY FOR NEXT TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY… SATURDAY IS THE WEEKEND PICK… MONDAY AFTERNOON INTO TUESDAY MORNING COULD FEATURE HEAVY RAINFALL AT TIMES, THEN HOT AND HUMID INTO THURSDAY WITH MORE SHOWERS AND STORMS POSSIBLE…
TODAY’S DATE: Friday, July 15, 2022
Good morning folks, once again we’ve got some patchy fog in spots, but that will burn off quickly, leading to a sweet pair of sunny and comfortable days for Friday and Saturday. By Sunday, humidity will be rising up noticeably with a few showers or storms, followed by a potential for a soaking rainfall Monday into Tuesday. Our first heat wave for some should arrive Tues-Thurs and likely end with a potential for severe thunderstorms on Thursday, but before we dive into all of the weather details below, let’s check a note from our local and delicious sponsor, #TandemBagelCo, with their newest location in West Springfield, MA.

WEATHER REPORT
Good morning everybody, after some morning fog burns off in spots, we’re going to enjoy a lovely, mostly sunny day with highs in the upper 70s to upper 80s from north to south, with most of us cresting into the low to mid 80s. Humidity will be considerably lower than yesterday.
A light northwest wind behind the recent cold frontal passage will be ushered in by a large high pressure system over the eastern Great Lakes and Ohio Valley region that will continue to drift east. This will keep our winds light out of the northwest.
Lows tonight will dip into the mid 50s to low 60s across the region under partly cloudy skies, so it’ll be a nice Friday night for outdoor dining!
For Saturday, we should also be mostly dry with comfortable dewpoint temps, but there could be some scattered showers or a weak thunderstorm that pushes through WMass in the afternoon or evening due to a weak wave rippling through the region.
Highs will again be well into the 80s, with lows in the low to mid 60s.
Sunday is going to be the start of a 5-day stretch of substantially humid conditions, which will end with a Tuesday-Thursday heat wave the way it looks now (this will be our first of 2022).
The end of the weekend should feature more partly sunny skies, with increasing humidity, which should help to pop some scattered showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon. Highs will reach well into the 80s again. These showers may last into the evening, with lows eventually only ending up in the mid 60s.
For Monday, the morning may start off on the dry side with partly sunny skies early, but an upper trough in the Great Lakes will help spawn a surface low pressure system that will track through northern New England.
Given that the low will be to our north and northwest, this will help draw copious moisture into the region, and with warm temps expected to fill a deeper layer adjacent to the Earth’s surface, efficient rainfall production should develop which could fall heavily at times Monday afternoon and night, and ending Tuesday morning, with hopefully some of us getting over an inch of rain.
Highs will reach the low to mid 80s under mostly cloudy skies, and we can’t rule out some strong thunderstorms for Monday night as well. Lows will be in the mid to upper 60s.
After the rain clears on Tuesday, we’re going to continue to be quite humid, and with high pressure off of the coast and our upper trough still northwest of us, we’ll get strong southwest flow which should cause our temps to take off and reach the low 90s Tuesday, mid 90s Wednesday, and low 90s on Thursday, potentially resulting in our first heat wave of 2022.
To be clear, this potential heat wave is relegated mainly for the Pioneer Valley and points south and east. The Berkshires, northern Litchfields, western hilltowns, southern VT and southwest NH likely will not see a heat wave next week.
Furthermore, we should be mostly sunny during this Tuesday through Thursday period, although a few afternoon showers are possible each day.
By Thursday afternoon, a cold front will be approaching the region, and that is when we could be in for some strong to severe thunderstorms by the afternoon, but that’s a ways off and I will update this portion of the forecast as we get closer.
As I’ve been saying, our cooler than average stretch is being eroded through July, as the heat and humidity surges into New England with time.
And what time is it? IT’S SUMMAH TIME.
Have a great day, folks, and remember…
“Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It’s round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you’ve got a hundred years here. There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind.”
