ARCTIC BLAST ARRIVES TONIGHT... EXTREME COLD WARNINGS AND COLD WEATHER ADVISORIES CONTINUE... SNOW ARRIVES SUNDAY EITHER SIDE OF NOON ON SUNDAY...
Good evening everybody, I just wanted to post a quick update this Friday evening to remind us of our pre-snowstorm weather conditions as they are quite noteworthy, and require awareness to navigate, especially for folks who are more sensitive to the cold.
Temps are already collapsing into the single digits and teens with some fleeting low 20s which are going #BuhBye with great rapidity as our cold front has passed the region, and winds out of the northwest have begun and will pick up and gust 25-40mph at times overnight as temps crash into the -10º to 5º range for lows.
This will drive wind chills to -10º to -25º by early Saturday morning, at which time I will venture out for the bread and milk, I’M KIDDING! I’M KIDDING!
Well, I do need some chili supplies so I can whip up a big batch of chili for Sunday and Monday, and so I can get red sauce on my bib when I watch the Pats beat the Broncos and go to the Super Bowl whilst I keep an eye on the weather and churn the reports out. #GoPats
As for our Saturday, we’ll see high temps crawl up into the single digits to low teens, and with northwest winds still blowing, wind chills likely stay below zero at times during the daylight hours, with some relief towards end of the day into Saturday night when lows will go below zero again for some.
Hard to call Saturday the “weekend pick”, but it will be sunny if you like stars and stuff, but our star won’t do much surface heating.
By Saturday night into Sunday morning, clouds will thicken up as giant storm that has caused the hoisting of Winter Storm Warnings from west Texas through New England will be pushing into our region, with snow starting either side of noon.
There’s not much change from earlier reports regarding the major snowstorm that’s coming our way. I still think 8-16″ takes into account the potential for snow banding, as well as some short-term guidance concern for sleet into northern CT, but if that happened it likely does so after the bulk of the precip moves through the region.
In reality, I still think most of us will see 10-20″ of snow, with most in the 10-15″ range but I will update in the morning report tomorrow morning after some overnight guidance comes in.
I hope you have a great night!
