Winter Weather Alert

WIND CHILLS BELOW ZERO LATE TONIGHT IN THE HIGH TERRAIN, AND SNOW BLANKETS THE GROUND AGAIN ON TUESDAY MORNING... THE LONGEST NIGHT...
Good evening everybody, I’m wishing you all a Happy Solstice as the longest night passes through our hills and dales, bringing wind and cold with lows in the mid to upper teens, and wind chills in the single digits above and below zero for many of us (see attached chart) with gusts blowing 20-35mph for the most part.
This time of year is a time to be thankful for shelter first and foremost. To have shelter, light, heat, and food (if you have all 4, not everybody does) is a true blessing and a night like tonight is most worthy of practicing gratitude for such resources.
Winds will lighten up by Monday, and a mostly sunny day is on the way with highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s followed by an increase in clouds at night with lows in the low to mid 20s.
First snow showers may arrive before dawn on Tuesday morning, but the steadiest light (to at times moderate) snowfall will develop after around 8am and last into early afternoon before tapering off later in the afternoon.
It still looks like a widespread 1-3″ snowfall with 2-5″ in the central/northern Berkshires, western hilltowns (especially north of the Pike) and up into SVT.
I hope you have a great night and can curl up with some soup, a book, a TV show you like, or whatever makes you feel nurtured in this long dark ahead. For me, I’m watching the Pats game for the first half by the fire.
Have a great evening, Dave.
