[6:30PM SAT. ALERT] FRESH COLD WEATHER ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN HOISTED FOR WMASS AND NORTHERN CT TONIGHT... BELOW ZERO WIND CHILLS TONIGHT AND SUNDAY NIGHT... BLUSTERY TOMORROW P.M.

Good evening everybody, we’ve gotta get through this weekend to get on the other side of this brutal post-January-thaw Arctic blast that has bestowed us with below-zero cold and major snowfall. It hasn’t been this wintry since the 2013-2015 run of winters, so it’s been a while.

And for folks who moved here after the warm season of 2015 due to pandemic flight out of urban areas or for other reasons, you’ve never experienced a *real* winter like this one, so I feel for you, for sure.

Having said that, we have another couple of very cold nights to move through before we can get at least a bit of reprieve from this Arctic air mass.

For tonight, wind is light early, but should pick up (especially in the high terrain) and gust 10-20mph at times during the pre-dawn hours into early Sunday morning, which will be enough to combine with low air temps in the -8º to 5º range to produce wind chills down to -10º to -20º.

This is why Cold Weather Advisories are posted for WMass and northern CT, and you can expect it to be freakin’ cold everywhere, let’s be honest.

Sunday will feature an increase of high to mid level clouds with partly sunny skies well west of I-91 and north of Rt. 2 as the coastal storm passing NC and SC with heavy snow and wind now makes its closest pass to the Cape, with a graze there.

As the storm passes well southeast of us (we dodged a big bullet, folks) northerly gusts by later afternoon and overnight should come up to about 20-35mph at times, which after Sunday highs in the teens to low 20s will produce wind chills below zero again.

After that, we’ll start to moderate by Monday afternoon with highs mostly in the 20s, as well as some upper teens in SVT/SWNH and some low 30s in the Springfield to Hartford stretch in the southern valley proper.

And as I mentioned in this morning’s report, the next shot for accumulating snow will be Friday night into Saturday with an Alberta Clipper system, after which more cold is coming.

Have a great night, and if you value my work and want it to continue through 2026, any contribution during my annual drive will help greatly, just click the secure link below, thanks and stay warm, Dave.
