FOLKS, YA GOTTA BE UP IN TIME *AND* ELEVATION FOR FULL LUNAR ECLIPSE TOMORROW MORNING... WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES CONTINUE FOR SNOW AND ICE NOON TO MIDNIGHT NORTH OF THE PIKE...

Good evening everybody, we’ve got one more cold night to deal with tonight, and after that we’re off to the races for our Spring surge Wednesday through the weekend and into next week. However, prior to that, we have to get through tonight and into Tuesday night which will feature us dealing with more wintry weather on the way (and perhaps some icing Thursday night as well).

Lows tonight should dip into the teens for overnight lows with perhaps some upper single digits in SVT or SWNH, but most of us are in the teens by late tonight.

Clouds will build in northern CT by the late pre-dawn hours and be pressing northeast with time.

Hopefully, this means that folks north of the Pike will be up at 6am to see the Full Lunar Eclipse in the western sky which will take on a deep copper-red color at totality, which is at 6:04am.

However, the Full Worm Moon sets at 6:24am in the west, so you’ll need to be most likely elevated in some way and looking west to see it!

Clouds will quickly fill in during the early to mid-morning hours ahead of our incoming warm front, with dry cold air in place.

Temps will rise up into the low 30s, but as long as the clouds get overhead fast enough to prevent further surface warming at the morning rolls on, when the precip does arrive between 11am and 1pm it should evaporatively cool the surface air.

This process will likely produce wet snow for just about all of us, with perhaps some sleet or mixed snow/sleet in parts of northern CT. Highs will be in the upper 20s to mid 30s.

A coating to 1″ should fall for most of us before we mix with or change to sleet and/or freezing rain in much of northern CT, WMass and CMass, with snow and sleet hanging on for longer north of the Rt. 2 corridor.

In far northern MA, SVT and SWNH we should see more like 1-3″ of snow/sleet before changing to freezing rain.

Ice accretions north of the Pike could range from a glaze up to two-tenths of ice accretion by midnight Tuesday when this storm will pull east and out of here, with some plain south of the Pike possible.

Wednesday looks lovely with sunshine and highs in the mid 40s to low 50s before more inclement weather arrives Thursday night into Friday morning.

In fact, that may be more robust and with high pressure situated to our northeast it may drain surface cold down into our region, and cause an icing event that could impact the Friday morning commute.
