Winter Weather Alert

MONDAY IS STARTING TO LOOK A BIT MORE WINTRY... SOME LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE MOSTLY NORTH OF THE MA/CT STATE LINE...

Good late-afternoon folks, we have had a dreary, showery day so far today with temps mostly in the low to mid 40s with about a tenth to a third of an inch of rainfall having been observed across the region (less east, more west and south).

There is a loooooong swath of precipitation / rainfall extending west from our region out through the entire combined length of the state of New York *and* Lake Erie.

All of that is all coming east towards southern New England as it slowly sags south with drier/colder air slowly sweeping into the northern part of that precip shield.

This means that periods of rain and shower will continue through tonight, but as the rain shield sags south, drizzle will form along the northern side, and as colder air works into the region, some freezing drizzle and eventually mix or change to snow is expected along and south of the Rt. 9 corridor in SVT/SWNH by around midnight or the early pre-dawn hours.

Thereafter, the precip shield and colder air will continue to sag south into WMass, CMass and northern CT after midnight, and as a low pressure system tracks east off of the NJ coastline staying to our south, there’s an increasing chance that we’ll see rain changing to wet snow or sleet mix along and south of the MA/VT-NH state line down into far northern CT between 3am-9am.

Given this, don’t be surprised to see snow during your early morning commute in WMass and CMass. In fact, there’s a low-moderate chance that especially at elevation we could see a coating to inch or two before precip quits before mid-morning or so.

Beyond that, we may see periods in the afternoon of snow showers, and a few might be on tghe hedavier side with additional coatings possible, with the bewst chance of that happening east of the I-91 corridor.

Given that highs are expected to only hang in the 30s tomorrow, we could actually be dealing with a pretty late-season wintry day.

I will be up early to do a quick update before 5:30am, and then full report just after 7am.

Have a great night!
