Winter Weather Alert

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN HOISTED FOR THE NORTHERN BERKSHIRES, MUCH OF SVT, AND WORCESTER COUNTY WHERE HIGHER AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED ON SATURDAY...

Good afternoon everybody, this will be a fairly quick post as I wanted to make you aware of the Winter Weather Advisories in far northwest MA and southern VT, and also in CMass, which are areas that are more likely to reach a 2-5″ accumulation level, with some half foot amounts possible.

These more moderate-level accumulations are likelier to be found in eastern parts of CMass where the Arctic front has a better chance of colliding with a coastal front and/or mid-level boundary later tomorrow morning into early afternoon, producing heavier snow bands for a time.

However, all of CMass has this potential, as does SWNH and the eastern highlands of Franklin County down into Pelham, Belchertown, and far eastern Hampden County.

Snow will arrive a bit later tonight as well, probably starting between 10pm and 1am from west to east.

Light to moderate snow will fall tomorrow morning and taper off by late morning to early afternoon as the Arctic front runs eastward through our region.

Most of us will see 1-3″ by the afternoon as winds pick up and gust 25-40mph at times behind the front causing temps to fall from the teens and low 20s down into the single digits with wind chills dropping to near 0º and below zero during the evening.

Extreme Cold Warnings continue for our entire region for Saturday night into Sunday with lows as low as -15º and wind chills as low as -35º by early Sunday morning, followed by a very cold SunDay and SunNight (highs single digits, lows -10º to 0º).

I will post a comprehensive update tomorrow morning no later than 8:15am, but suffice it to say that you should expect slower travel with falling snow early tomorrow morning, with periods of moderate to even briefly heavier snow at times in the high terrain, especially either side of the Pioneer Valley.

This system is more of a “Triangle of Disappointment” setup for snow lovers in the valley, and the snow should be fluffy and will therefore blow and drift tomorrow afternoon and night. Have a great night!
