WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES CONTINUE FOR SCATTERED SNOW AND SLEET SHOWERS NORTH OF ROUTE 2 TO START, AND SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN SOUTH OF THERE, BECOMING MOSTLY FREEZING RAIN SHOWERS

Good afternoon everybody, while this isn’t a big winter storm system on the way for tonight, it will still be impactful and produce scattered showers of varying intensity, and varying precipitation types.

Snow and sleet will be more likely observed along and especially north of the Route 2 corridor in northern MA, southern VT and southwestern NH, at least during the first part of tonight, though milder air aloft is expected to continue to push northeast with time. A coating to an inch or so of snow and sleet is possible before a changeover to freezing rain.

South of that area, we should sleet and freezing rain with some snow mix going over to freezing rain as the night wears on, with slippery road conditions developing as temps fall back into the low 30s in most areas, with some upper 20s north of the Rt. 2 corridor.

Please be careful if you must head out on the road ways tonight, or if you have to take the dog for walk, etc., as surfaces only need a glaze of ice to become slippery, and a tenth to as much as a quarter of ice accretion is expected by the middle of Wednesday morning.

We should see plain rain develop along and south of the Pike tomorrow morning, and perhaps that will extend north into the Northampton/Amherst stretch of the central Pioneer Valley in WMass.

Mixed precip should arrive into northwest CT, the Berkshires and southwest VT by 7pm and spread east through the valley and into CMass and northeast CT by about 10pm.

Again, this will be a showery precip shield, so light sometimes, heavier at others, non-existent or drizzly at other times.

PLEASE NOTE: freezing drizzle or steady light rain is a superb ice-accretion mechanism, so don’t be fooled into thinking it’s not a big deal if temp is freezing or less.

Lastly, remember that we’ve had a very cold surface leading up to this event like the last icing event, so it’s likely going to get slippery pretty fast tonight.

The system clears out of here by early Wednesday afternoon.

Have a great evening, and be safe, thanks, Dave.
