WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES HAVE EXPANDED INTO FRANKLIN COUNTY, NORTHERN WORCESTER COUNTY & ALL OF SVT... LESS SNOW FALLS SOUTHERN AREAS, MORE SNOW FALLS NORTHERN AREAS...
Good afternoon everybody, we now have Winter Weather Advisories up by the National Weather Service for SVT, SWNH, Berkshire County MA, western Hampden County MA, Franklin County MA, northern Worcester County MA, as well as Litchfield and Hartford Counties in northwest CT.
The southern Berkshires into western Hampden County down into northwest CT is for snow and freezing rain and/or freezing drizzle combined with a coating to an inch of snow plus some icing on top by later tonight.
The other Advisories for northern areas like the northern Berkshires east through Franklin County and northern CMass on up north into SVT and SWNH are for accumulating snow of 2-5″ by tomorrow morning, with some additional light accumulation in far northwest MA bordering with VT into the southern Greens of SVT for Wednesday and Wednesday night as upslope snow showers set up there behind tonight’s cold frontal passage.
The reality is that we have a finger of snow trying to work east into the Capital Region of NY (i.e. Albany and surrounding areas) and in some parts of NY west of Albany it is reaching the ground.
However, it’s dry at the surface so this afternoon’s snow pulse may be dust a few areas in northwest MA, SVT and the northern Taconics, but should mostly fall as virga in much of the rest of the greater WMass region and act to provide moisture to the surface atmosphere, setting the stage for the steady snow to to develop between 6-9pm or so, and quit after midnight.
Snow totals should land somewhere between a coating to 2″ should mostly cover us south of the Route 2 corridor (just coatings in northern CT) with more like 2-5″ along and north of the Rt. 2 corridor in northern MA, SVT and SWNH.
Again later this evening, milder air will likely work in aloft over southwest MA and northwest CT and turn snow to a period of lighter freezing rain with some freezing drizzle possible as drier air works behind the front.
I will update early this evening, hope you have a great rest of your day!
