Winter Weather Alert

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES HAVE BEEN HOISTED FOR NORTHWEST MA AND BENNINGTON COUNTY VT, AS WELL AS FOR CMASS AND NORTHEAST... A LINE OF SNOW SQUALLS ARE EXPECTED...
Good afternoon folks, this is just a quick post to say that while we’ll see periods of light snow generally between 7pm to 3am tonight from west to east (earlier west, later east, for about a 4-5 hour period). However, this initial light snow activity which should lay down a coating to 2″ for most of us thru about 3am will only constitute Act 1 and is associated with a developing storm system that will swing through tonight and then paste Nova Scotia later on New Year’s Day and Night.
As the storm strengthens, it is looking like it will tag northeast CT and CMass (especially southern Worcester County) as it turns more northeast and heads for Nova Scotia producing some steadier snows before dawn, and so Winter Weather Advisories have been posted there.
In addition, Act 2 has been taking shape this morning into the afternoon, as signals for snow squalls have been cropping up and are now expected with the actual cold frontal passage early New Year’s Morning between 3am to 9am from west to east.
This will cold frontal passage will also induce some upslope snow showers to form in far northwest MA (northern Berkshires, western Franklin and western Hampshire County hilltowns) and southwest VT during New Year’s Morning, where Winter Weather Advisories are now posted for snow totals of anywhere from 2″ up to 6″ (highest amounts in the southern Green Mountains).
I will try to update again this evening before the snow sets, but the Pioneer Valley between about 4am to 6am-ish could see heavy snow for a brief time, and I can’t rule out a bit of thundersnow! Here comes 2026! KAPOW!
