Winter Weather Alert

DEEPER COLD AIR IS DEVELOPING DUE TO EVAPORATIVE COOLING... SNOW WILL FALL MODERATELY AND COULD BURST HEAVIER IN THE HIGH TERRAIN... WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES CONTINUE. ICING LATER

Good Noon to everybody, periods of snow are pushing into the region, and temps are a touch colder than expected given evaporative cooling as mentioned, and an earlier onset of clouds which prevented warming.

This means we will very likely not be seeing any plain rain (not that I was advertising much in the way of it except for northern CT, perhaps), which further means we have a light to moderate-level snow to ice event underway which will last into the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday morning.

Again, snow/sleet along and north of Rt. 2 with snow changing to sleet and then mainly freezing rain south of there, especially down toward the Pike and into northern CT.

It’s possible that 1-4” of snow/aleet may pull down to the Pike on northward from there given this colder air and snowier afternoon, with slick travel given colder surfaces.

Ice accretions in those areas from freezing rain are now more likely to climb into the tenth to three-tenths of an inch range, which means slippery travel is likely to increase by later this afternoon and especially this evening.

I will update later this afternoon…
