CONFIDENCE IS INCREASING IN SECONDARY LOW DEVELOPMENT LATE SATURDAY TO HELP DEVELOP MORE COLD AND WINTRY PRECIP IN NORTHERN PARTS OF GREATER WMASS REGION...
Good morning everybody, I just wanted to pop on to your phones to let you know that as we move closer to the Saturday night to Sunday morning system, there are some colder trends that continue to be signaled, meaning the potential exists for more icing and even snow as the storm pulls away.
Briefly, we have a primary storm that will run northeast on Saturday into the eastern Great Lakes region which will cause pressures to then lower off of the southern New England coastline. At first, this will mean warm, moist air will be pushed into the greater WMass region in the form of rain showers by later Saturday afternoon, first starting in CT and coming north.
Thereafter, a secondary low will deepen near Cape Cod and this will combine with high pressure up in southeast Canada to pull colder air further south and southwest into northern MA, SVT and SWNH Saturday evening.
This cold air drain southward and will cause freezing rain to develop as temps cool along and north of the Rt. 2 corridor, and some sleet will also be possible, as a cold rain falls further south in WMass, CMass, and northern CT.
As the secondary low develops and the first slug of precipitation tracks east, a cold front will approach as colder air continues to drain in, which may flip some of us over to snow.
All in all, a quarter inch to half inch of liquid precipitation is expected, and light ice accumulations along with a coating to an inch or so of snow in the back end is possible in the northern Berkshires, western hilltowns, Rt. 2 corridor in Franklin and Worcester Counties on north into SVT and SWNH.
Have a great rest of your day!
