SHOWERS FOR THURSDAY EVENING AND OVERNIGHT WITH ISOLATED STRONG TO POTENTIALLY SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FRIDAY AFTERNOON…
Good afternoon folks, yet another gorgeous day has swept by our human lives here in the greater WMass region, and for that we can be most grateful. We’ve got a lot of fair weather coming up in the next 7 days, I believe, but this post’s purpose is to highlight the shower and t-storm potential for Thursday night and especially by Friday afternoon.
Quickly, we’ve got sunshine with some high clouds through the rest of the day, with more of a partly cloudy sky in far northern MA, SVT and SWNH that will develop tonight with lows dropping into the low to mid 50s.
For Thursday, we’ll enjoy a partly sunny day for most of the daylight hours with highs in the mid 70s to low 80s, though clouds will build by later in the day with light southwest breezes.
By evening, we can expect a few scattered showers to start working into the region, though it’s really after dark and into the pre-dawn hours that a warm front will push more numerous showers into our region and some may be on the heavier side. Lows will dip into the mid to upper 50s.
After some Friday morning showers, we should get a lull as highs climb into the upper 70s to low 80s. There are also some signals for instability to build into our region with dewpoints climbing into the mid to upper 60s on southerly flow ahead of an incoming cold front that approaches us from the west by later Friday afternoon.
With decent wind shear (i.e. a change in wind speed and/or direction with elevation) moving in, this could all combine to produce some isolated to widely scattered strong to severe thunderstorms capable of strong gusty winds and torrential rain for later Friday afternoon into the evening.
While a few showers are possible Saturday morning, I think we’ll be drying into the afternoon, though parts of northern CT may see a few more showers. Still, a washout is not expected at any point during the weekend, and Sunday still remains as the weekend pick with highs in the low to mid 80s under fully sunny skies.
Thanks for reading, and have a great night!
