CLOUDS THICKEN AND SHOWERS ARRIVE 4-10PM FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST ON SATURDAY… SOAKING SUNDAY ON THE WAY, WITH SHOWERS TAPERING OFF SUNDAY NIGHT… MEMORIAL MONDAY WEEKEND PICK!
Good early evening folks, the birds are chirping, the wind is light, and the temps are fairly temperate, though they’ll be heading south through Sunday night before turning the corner for us and rebounding on Memorial Monday. One thing seems certain, and that’s that rain is on the way for Saturday night and especially Sunday during the day, tapering off Sunday night.
For tonight, winds will be light and temps will drop into the 40s for lows as clouds thicken up and wind turns out of the southeast, light in intensity.
For much of Saturday, we’ll benefit from plenty of dry air around despite the cloudiness aloft. With a solidifying cloud deck, and onshore flow, we’ll see temps become capped in the upper 50s to mid 60s for highs with many of us sitting around / either side of 60º.
By sometime between the 3-6pm timeframe, the dry air over Litchfield County and western CT up into the southern Berkshires and perhaps into westernmost Hampden County should be overcome by showers that will have been tracking overhead as early as around mid-day, yet falling into dry air below and evaporating before reaching the ground, a/k/a “virga”.
The rain will be due to warm front pushing northeast into western New England, and as that process continues, rainfall will overspread the rest of the greater WMass region between 6pm and 10pm to as late as midnight. Lows will drop into the 40s.
Please note that southeast wind gusts will be picking up off the ocean and blowing 10-20mph at times Saturday night into Sunday morning.
After a potential lull in shower activity in the pre-dawn hours well north of the Pike, Sunday rainfall should fill back in for much of the entire day with light to moderate rainfall expected, along with some heavier elements at times.
High temps tomorrow will only reach the upper 40s to mid 50s so it’ll be a raw and rainy Sunday, the way it continues to look now.
In addition, southeast gusts will up and blow 20-35mph by Sunday toward late morning into the afternoon with periods of rain that should total half an inch up to 1.5” or so into Sunday night, when rain should lighten up and become more intermittent and isolated to scattered.
Temps will start coming up behind the front Sunday night, and on Memorial Monday (despite a few morning showers possible) we should salvage a period of partly sunny skies by afternoon with highs in the upper 60s to mid 70s.
Have a great night and I will update you again tomorrow morning!
