COLD FRONT BRINGS A COUPLE ISOLATED DOWNPOURS THROUGH NORTHERN CT THIS EVE… OTHERWISE BREEZY AND COOLER INTO LATE WEEK WITH SOME MORE WIDELY SCATTERED SHOWERS TOMORROW...
Good early evening folks, it’s been a very warm and sunny day with many towns reaching well into the 80s for highs along with a breeze and fairly dry conditions (the Loudville section of Easthampton hit 92º!).
We did have a few downpours develop in far southwest MA which have now tracked southeast into Hartford County in northern CT, but those should subside with our setting star.
A cold front will continue to drop south through the region tonight, as evidenced by high dewpoints in the 60s to low 70s in northern CT with much lower humidity in the northern half of WMass, CMass, SVT and SWNH where dewpoints are now in the 30s and 40s!
The front will continue south with breezy conditions at times and lows will bottom out into the upper 40s to upper 50s overnight as drier air moves in.
For Thursday and Friday, we’ll see two systems (one each day) rotate south to southeast around the western flank of an upper low over Atlantic Canada and around the eastern flank of an upper ridge over the Great Lakes, aimed right at New England.
This means we can expect significantly colder air aloft to swing overhead through New England both days, as well as on Saturday which will generate cooler temps as compared to the first half of this week, ending tonight.
Highs Thursday and Friday will rise into the mid 60s to mid 70s from high terrain to the valley, followed by widely scattered instability showers dropping southeast through the region Thursday afternoon with many remaining dry with isolated wet ground.
By Friday, however, a more potent and compact second upper low will drop through northern New England destined for eastern MA (see attached graphic).
This system will even more substantially cool the air aloft, leading to areas of showers during Friday later afternoon into the evening which should last into Saturday morning (especially for areas along and east of the valley).
To be sure, any of the showers generated by that Friday / Saturday system could produce small hail, graupel anywhere in our region, and even some snowflakes in the high peaks of southern and central VT (especially areas like Okemo, Ascutney, Killington, etc.).
Welcome to June?!
The bottom line for the weekend is that Saturday continues to look cooler, breezy, and likely with more clouds than sunshine resulting in highs only reaching the mid 50s to low 60s at this point, with warmer temps in the mid 60s to low 70s along with sunnier skies by Sunday.
I hope you have a great night!
